Got a surprise when I direct wired my V1...
I tapped into the hot wire in the over head courtesy light for my V1 detector. Discovered it wasn't a switched lead and decided to "live" with turning the power button on and off each time. Well, I got out of car and forgot to turn it off. About an hour later, it hit me & I ran back out to the car to turn it off. When I opened the door, the V1 made the POWER UP sound it always makes when first turned on...turns out our Evo's have some kind of power saver feature that cuts the power to the dome light after like 35 minutes if left on. That was a pleasant surprise! I was pretty sure someone once wrote you couldn't access a good/easy hot lead to mount a V1 or other dectector. Nice!
I am a total car geek, but it's called ETACS (Electronic Timing And Control System), introduced with the Galant Sigma in the 80's, it's basically an ECU that governs the interior functions of the car.

WFO is right!
It's not too hard and you don't trickle drain your battery/have to fumble with the volume nob.

It also turns the headlights off too. I got in the car the other day and noticed I left my headlights on looking at the switch on the stearing column. Turned them off and thinking the battery is dead, but it started right up! Cool feature! !
onlinealias, it's no good if you're using a TT (which you SHOULD be doing!!
)
I don't know about you guys, but I prefer to have ALL electronics shut down before I take the key out of the ignition/the engine turns off. That means hvac, radio, lights, etc. The only thing running still would be the V1 in my car.

TT
yeah, I wish there was a work around for the TT issue.
FWIW, If you leave the key in the car, with the lights on......the lights will shut off after the TT shuts the car down.
Not that many people live in an area where that is recommended, but it does work.
