silverkorn, what you're saying could very well be true, I'm not sure.

However the Ralliart version of the Evo will be known as the Evo Vlll, at least in other parts of the planet.

Also Ralliart already has the power output up to 300hp and is in the process of trying to convince Mitsu to do away with the "Gentlemen's agreement" and if they succeed in doing so, Ralliart will then bump the HP to 330. According to one of the British mags.

But this version probably wont make it here at least not for a year or so.

that would really nice to see but the thing is Japan now has emission laws. Nothing as strict as we got here but its a start. i believe they took effect last month for all new cars. thats why production of the Skyline is going to be coming to its end in the next couple years.

Paul Hansen,

Thanks for the clarification.
Do you know if the 03 Jan world wide debut of Evo8 be a Ralliart
model? Or Ralliart Evo8 for the world and MMC Evo8 for the
US?

Also another question that is off-topic from this...
It seems like both Toyota and Nissan are dropping their
wonderful Inline 6's for the upcoming Skyline GT-R & Supra for
V6 Turbo or V8.... do you know the reason why?

Thanks,

my guess as to why they would drop the inline 6 is that they dont use it on any other car so its not cost effective. why spend all the money to build engines for only the Skyline or Supra when you can get a very similar engine from another car/truck you already make. it may not make nearly as much power and definally not as much torque but they are able to offer the car for less cause of the money they saved in the production.

I think we would all love to know the answer to that. We probably won't find out till the January Auto Shows.

Packaging. They had to redesign some new engines from scratch anyways, because of the changes in emission laws that has happened from when these engines were originally designed. And once a redesign was mandated, then they had to bring every other consideration in, which includes a major design element, packaging the engine into the car. A V6 or V8 is easier to design around than a inline six, they allow more space for crush zones in accidents, are shorter in lengthwhich would even allow transverse placement, and probably shorter in height as well. It would also make R&D considerably cheaper if you spend it all on one series of engines rather than several completely different engines. The V6 series that Nissan has moved to is used throughout many different platforms, and the costs of making it has gone down with the huge amounts of uses it now gets, from the Altima on up. Subaru has cut costs considerably by having literally only one engine line, with the turbo motor being shared by all the turbo models. The 4G63 is also used through a variety of models by MMC. All this gets passed on to the consumer in the guise of cheap, reliable cars that have a very high bang for the buck value.

Realistically, Nissan is going to sell many more 350Z's with a starting price of 27grand, even with just a decent motor, than they would sell if they sold them at a starting price of 35-40k with a great motor. That's how the Evo and the STI beat out all the other sports cars in the Japanese market - they cut costs and passed on to people fantastic bang-for-the-buck cars, by sharing so many of the base parts and engines among so many other models in their lineup. Nissan and Toyota are simply getting that message loud and clear.

Cheers,

Paul Hansen

My brother in-law works at a Mitsu Dealership and says that we will be getting the Evo VII January of 03 and the price will be under 30G's. He didn't say anything about the Evo VIII though.

Kind of funny...you say Mitsu is going to bring the VII when they are already tooled for the VIII? How much sense does that make? I guess we'll have to forget about getting an Evo with a 6-speed, lighter weight, and revised awd...they're just going to send us a bunch of 2002 Evo's when everyone else is getting 2004 Evo VIII with more tq, 6-speed, maybe more hp, etc.

We are getting the VIII. I hope it really does come over like it has the potential to....remember Ralliart is now getting 300-330hp out of the Evo. I think they'll bring a 270+ model and then maybe a 300hp+ model later too raise the level against the Sti which will come around mid summer...just a guess though

Why would we want the Evolution 7 to come to america instead of the evolution 8 i don't think ne1 would be satisfied if we released an old car in america while the rest of the world go a brand new evolution. I think that would just be cheating us out of a brand new exciting and incredible piece of machinary I'm glad that we're getting the evo8 already got mine pre-ordered and i can't wait to open up that throttle down the Highways in New Jersey...........................
