I honestly doubt it'll affect insurance much at all, but it seems to me like the simplest thing to regain if anything is changed at all. Just buy a few JDM or aftermarket parts.

I was talking to a couple of my friends at the dealership and they said (well here in Fl at least) if they even decide to put out the EVO VIII, it might be in the same rates as corvettes, ferraris, or any other exotic car unless they make it a very watered down version or they vary from state to state on what is in the car and what needs to be taken out!! Bottom line is if its a four door or not insurance will find a way to screw you (well at least hear in FL). Insurance companies

Just look at the insurance for WRX's now. They're expensive, at least here in MD. I guess insurance companies are realizing that the WRX is more car than most other 4-doors. Funny thing is, my other friend has a '93 VR4 and he pays less for insurance than my friend with the wrx.

You want to know what affects your insurance the most? These stupid teenagers buying the car (wrx), thinking they can drive like a pro rally car driver, and crashing them right and left. It's the simple truth. The rates for the Wrx started out ok..but they keep going up with all the claims made. Hopefully the price of the Evo will be a little too high for a bunch of those same young reckless drivers.
Also, 20hp difference from the factory isn't going to change the rates. They are going to look at: turbo, 4 drs, cost to repair, and frequency of accidents.

the 93 vr4 is also going to be worth considerably less than a WRX. Insurance is also based on total value of the car.

Heres a good guide I found to help explain insurence costs and what factors effect it the most.

http://www.consumerguide.com/index.c...rticle/advice4

By what Ive seen the biggest factors are almost always the age of the person and the cost of the car.

Can't agree more!!
should make the car 35k with all the goodies from JDM
ones and call it the EVO8.... and another with sub 30k ones for
those kids to crash called Lancer Turbo...

Hate to see every EVO driven by damn kids who got it from
daddy on their 16th birthday...
