is there a gap between the shiftknob and the screw thread when you use the razo 340g? i tried using my brothers stock is300 shiftknob and there was this gap, looked funky.

Yeah, there was a gap but I took off the center console and wrapped some duct tape around the shifter where I thought the knob would come down to hold up the shift boot.

I've driven with it installed for a couple of weeks now, and I really like it a lot. Some things to consider:
1. Nice, solid feel
2. Easy install, no gap between the knob and boot
3. Metal portion can get hot in the sun, but with the leather on top it's not too bad
4. It is taller than the stock shiftknob, which does the following:
a. makes the throws longer
b. puts the shifter closer to the steering wheel
c. still not tall enough to interfere with the relocated Alpine

As I said, I like it ... IMO the combination of heavier shift knob and slightly longer throws is actually helping me to shift cleaner (especially the 1-2 shift).
I can second this recommendation. Based on Ludikraut's experiences, I went ahead and ordered the Razo 340G shorty shift knob from Lancershop.com and installed it yesterday. I just love it -- even more so than the GReddy shift knob I had on there previously but had to remove for the summer because of high car interior temperatures which cause the solid aluminum GReddy knob to become too hot to touch. While not quite as heavy as the GReddy, (340 grams vs. 440 grams), the Razo is still twice as heavy as the stock Mitsubishi knob. It is aluminum surrounded by a leather top and rear portion. It gets warm in the 90+ degree heat we've been having around here, but nowhere near as scalding as the GReddy. I too feel that shifts are smoother, and what I find most appealing of all is the ergonomic feel of the pistol grip shifter, versus the ball kind. I may just end up using the thing year-round.

Thanks, Ludikraut!

FAQS:

1. No, there is no gap between the shifter and the leather boot.
2. You install it by inserting a self-tapping 10mm sleave to the shifter's base, and twist it right on until tight. Takes about two minutes, tops.
3. It has no shift pattern embossed on it, but Razo provides a sticker if you need it. I went ahead and put the sticker on the console so that people who have to drive the car other than me (valets, the wife, service personnel, etc.) will know where reverse is.
4. The thing is inexpensive: $40 plus shipping from Lancershop.com

Sweet!

I showed my new setup to my dealer yesterday and my sales guy was like ... he totally loved the new shifter and the center panel with gauges.

Here's Pivot

It's pretty heavy and looks like six speed shift knob.

if yer knob gets too hot you should get a knob cover for when you park or put yer racing glove on top of it instead of takin' it off, counterweight should be for all seasons :]

I also have a Razo counterweighted knob. Granted i don't have the evo (live in Canada, meh.) but the interior set up is basically identical.
here's a couple of pics of mine. this one is nearly half a kilogram. it rules. 100% leather wrapped with red threading. got the boot to match it.
it was ****ty weather out, so don't bug me about the crappy floor mats!!

Here's a side profile of it.

All in all, awesome price, and noticibly smoother shifting.
Cheers.

I know this is an old post but am adding to the options.

I just ordered the (New) Razo WR SPEC Leather RA114 240gram shift knob.
This won't be getting hot or cold and is perfectly weighed for enhanced shifting.

I orderd it from cardomain.com

Typically all the Momo knobs are weighted and are a lot heavier than stock.

I have the Greddy counterweighted shift knob. It does provide smoother shifting and is heavier than stock. The knob itself is smaller than stock which many people seem to not like. I didn't notice a gap at all after I put it on. It was pretty cheap too. $43 shipped from Z1.

It's heavier than the old Mitsu aluminum knob I had, the optional one, and it matches the steering wheel and the shifter base cover perfectly! It's not as heavy as the knob that came with the shortshifter kit I have. That one is definitely heavy!

Does anyone make a threaded insert for the momo knobs? With the bottom cover and the set screws, I could never get my shift knob all the way down to the shift boot.

Flip off the console and take the plastic washer off. It's ziptied to the boot on the inside, just cut off the ziptie, take off the plastic washer, and tadah! Your momo knob will know sit as far down as possible (sits lower than stock!). That, and it will feel a hell more stable because it's no longer just the 3 screws that keep it in, it's the actual shifter's width that keeps the knob snug!
