Thats a funny post ... ! , maybe i wasnt clear, this is an insert piece .. For 300 dollars its not a true lsd. The quaiffe is not yet out, and is priced over 1500 dollars. This is a cheap alternative for evo owners who dont want to shell out alot of money for a quaiffe. We waited to put it in someones car that runs good and has alot of power. Ron went 11.7 on pump gas with the stock turbo. He was complaining of wheel hop and the car pulling. This solved that problem. Its not hard to install, and can be done on the car. We will have pics up soon. We also have one on our race car...

Install for the piece is 275. Prob take about 2.5 hrs and can be done on the car. The lsd has a lifetime warranty, no warranty on labor. Hope this helps out ..

The phantom grip lsd does help a little. It does also accelerate breakage. The unit is just two blocks of steel that have a strong set of springs in between them. It is installed between the two spider gears. This forces the two spider gears against the housing. Limiting how fast they can spin. They work okay when you have a mild right front (left for evo cars?)wheelspin problem. Once you get enough power the wheelspin problem comes back and at that point there is huge friction at the gear to housing surface. This causes heat and heat causes breakage. I have seen a few shattered dsm diff housings that ran a phantom. The design of the phantom is just flawed. It creates friction at an area where there is not suppossed to be one. And the surface area of the friction is just two small to make a big difference.

I think its funny how everything EVO gets a price hike. They are 200 for dsm cars. Its just two plates and four springs for heavens sake.

We are using diff springs on our unit and had to redesign our diff a bit. But as far as causing wear / breakage. We've probably sold 600 + lsd's for the talon and not one has come back broken. This is a cheap solution for wheelhop and will lower your 60' times. I disagree with your comment about causing premature gear failure. I would much rather have an lsd in my car then wheel hop at the track and break my 2000k tranny or transfer case. Just my opinion....

Well when any vendor comes out with a product they have to factor in liablity if somthing goes wrong. So a DSM tranny is cheap compared to a EVO tranny. So prices for DSM products would be cheaper.

In time prices will fall and Turbotrix is the first Vendor to offer a 600.00 installed LSD. You can't beat that price...

A few years ago when those things hit the market a couple of locals had them installed in their gst cars. Both cars broke the front diff within two months. There has been good results seen in awd cars using them. Drops 60ft about a tenth and makes launching more consistant. I haven't seen an awd car break a diff with it. But there is less stress on the front diff in an awd car. I had one in my yellow car. After seeing the wear pattern on the gears after just 2000 miles I took it out in favor a factory torsen diff. The torsen diff did wonders compared to the phantom. I will stick with honest reviews of parts. And I will stick with my opinion that the phantom should be chosen with great caution. the front diff cannot be bought sepataely as of yet for the EVO8. An new one costs 2000.

I beg to differ. With minor modifications to the differential case halves, the Evo V RS torsen diff plugs right in. I have been running this setup for months now and it works great. See my post "Front LSD installed!".
Cheers,

If I get a clutch install from you how much extra labor would the LSD install be?

Sounds about right to me. You do get what you pay for, if the only advantage is 1/10th of a second when launching in a straight line, I think I'll pass.

Seems that this is a good mod for you drag racers out there, but I think I'll stick with my front Torsen for when I want to turn the car.
