...A Dream Come True.......

Two days ago I got my evo.....I still cant believe it. I feel like Im just high on life right now. I got it in Santa Monica.....2004 Evo, tarmac black, no leather, no sunroof. I have had it for two days now, and have driven about 120 miles so far. I traded in my SE-R Spec V, and could not be any happier. This car is simply phenomenal......every time I turn the key I have the biggest grin on my face.......its unbelievably solid, and the power is amazing.....I have not taken it above 4000 rpms yet, and I can not tell you how tempting it has been to crank the engine up to 6000 rpms or so.
I got a couple questions..........how important are wheel locks????? Obviously I dont want anyone swipin' my rims and tires, but are the wheel locks really a good measure of protection? Second, about how long should I let the car idle to allow the turbo to cool......the owners manual says "about 60 seconds or longer" so should I be waiting like a minute or two? Thanks for any and all info......Im gonna go drive it around a little more.....Ill take and post some pics soon......

Congrats!! Wheel locks are a good idea but then again if people really want your rims they will get your rims. A nice alarm system would be a good idea. About letting your car cool, it depends on how hard you drive it, since your not taking it over 4000rpms yet just let it sit for a min or two b4 shutting her down. A good idea is to take it easy when you get near your destination (say 2 or 3 miles shifting under 3k rpm) so you wouldn't have to worry about letting her cool down. Or you can be like me, just go out and buy a turbo timer. Wait til your able to take it up to redline!!!! Your'll have a blast then. Congrats again and be safe!

Congrats on the new Evo and be patient with not opening that bad boy up until it is broken in. As far as wheel locks, it depends where you live and the crime rate in your area. Also, is your car parked outside or garaged? I have wheel locks for mine, but I still have not put them on.

You are going to get a lot of mixed answers with letting your car idle. For me, this is my second turbo vehicle. I personally would never buy a turbo timer for my car. For example, if I run the car very hard, I will usually let it idle for a good minute or two before shutting it down. If I am just putting around, then I will get home and immediately shut the car off. I did this with my WRX, which I had for almost two years and my current Evo. I have never had any problems. If I drive the car hard, I just let it cool down by driving slow for about two miles before getting to my house. This will allow the car to cool down.

In all, what your trying to avoid is heating up the turbo and shutting it down. What happens is the oil in the lines end up getting cooked, therefore, clogging your oil lines. Good luck and pick the advice that works best for you.

My 2Cents, Gnulooks.

Enjoy it. I felt (and still feel) the same way. Got 1200 miles on the clock now, and enjoying every minute of it,especially now since my break in time is over. On how long you let the turbo cool down...it depends on how hard your driving it, being that your still in the break in period, a minute or two should be more than fine.

I also have about 1200 miles on my03 RR evo and am still gleaming. I just began easing past 5krpms and its a blast. BTW once you start goping higher up in the rpm range the amount of black soot on your rear bumper will increase. Cant wait to get a dynoflash to fix this "issue"

Just because I don't post that much does not make me a noob. I have also had my Evo for almost a year, but I am under 8000 miles.

alil over 5 month since i bought my evo and 9600 miles... i love every mile of my drive..... if you get annoyed of idling your car to cool your car down, just drive make sure under 3k rpms the rest 1 mile stretch, it will give your evo some time to cool down... then you wont have to idle it as long, although this method isnt a substitute for idling...

Another satisfied customer

Robert says "What Up!!"

If you don't have a garage, GET WHEEL LOCKS.

Duarty Mitsubishi just had rims stolen of an 04 EVO in there lot.
It cost them 3500

Also take time braking in the car. take a trip down to San Deigo that's what I did.
Just to get those breakin mile out of the way.

Turbo timer is not a big deal. If you do any extream racing, Just sit in your car for an extra minute. Let the song finish playing in the cd player. But if you want to spend $100-$150 for a turbo timer, thats up to you. you should spend that money on an alarm, or a radar detector.

But if you have any questions or conserns just call Robert or myself

Thanx,
Joe Hill Santa Monica Mitsu

Congrats. Get a turbo timer. It's cheap and worth it if you need to exit your car quickly such as being late for something, etc. Especially with warm So. Cal temps. Get a plug and play harnesss and it can be installed within minutes.

Also, get wheel locks. Very inexpensive insurance, especially in a big metro area with lots of places where a thief can take advantage.

break-in shouldn't involve long distance with constant speed... mitsu recommends various rpms (under 4k) and various speeds to not wear the cylinder's unevenly.
