JDM Spec reality check!!
JDM Spec reality check!!
Well I just installed the Megan Racing DP, Highflow CAT and Catback to find out that their is NO bung for the O2 sensor. So I give Megan Racing a call and they explain to me that this is because the bumper is JDM Spec?
So right now I am running the Evo w/o a O2 sensor before the CAT and the check engine light is one. I hope this will not blow something, please advise if otherwise.
The guy at Megan Racing told me to go to a Muffler shop and have them tap a hole in the exhaust to mount the O2 sensor (perpendicular (90 degrees to pipe) as opposed to ~45 degree pitch on stock exhaust). Are there any special criteria that need to be followed when mounting an O2 sensor? I noticed the one on the stock pipe is on an angle? My buddy had to do the same thing except the check engine light keeps coming on! Anyone have any suggestions.

that exhaust is for a GSR evo.they only have 1 O2 sensor.the Euro spec cars OBD2 system is close to US`s OBD2 system so it has 2 O2 sensors.all u have to do is get a O2 bung and weld it to the pipe
I installed the complete Megan 3" Turbo Back, with the bung and reset the computer. It was fine for a little while, but now the SES light is on. You can either install a 3" High Flow Cat or get the 02 attachment from Perrin.
The install went very well. I tried driving it without the silencer and it is too loud for my taste, I then installed the silencer and it is very livable. The car pulls very good too 7K (that is where I shift), but it could easily keep going. With the factory exhaust I would shift @ 6500 because it didn't feel like the car was pulling any more taking it all the way to 7K.
Quality of the system is great, Finish and fit is excellent,

I have the highflow Cat as well. I am getting a rattle from the rear now, I hope this is nothing with the tranny and something with the exhaust.
The power increase RULES! I have had my ECU flashed and tuned for this upgrade and I get serious pull all the way to about 8000 rpms, however I never take it over 7000.

If the rattling is coming from the back your tranny is probably fine, I bet it's one of the flanges hitting the metal shield. I need to move the muffler over about 1/2 inch, I noticed this morning that the tip is coming into contact with the muffler opening.

ok heres what you should do, have the muffeler shop weld like a 3 inch long bung to the part of the megan exhaust located where your stock cat was, this should help alieviate any ses codes, just make sure that this bung clears everything and I think you'll be golden.
does the stock downpipe have an O2 sensor, i know about the one after the cat, but i thought it had only 1 O2 sensor. I just ordered one of the Morgan DP and will be doing an install in a week, if i need to get a bung welded i will have to be prepared, thanks
The downpipe does not have an O2 bung on it.. the primary O2 sensor is in the O2 housing that the downpipe bolts to.. SOME downpipes remove that O2 housing, if it does, it should have a bung right there where it bolts up to the turbo.. OTHERWISE, the secondary O2 sensor is after the catalytic converter.. you will get a check engine light without that sensor connected, however it will not cause your car to run in "limp home" mode..
This make any sense?
Cars that don't have OBD-II (US or Euro) only have 1 O2 sensor, thats used for closed loop fuel control and its at the O2 housing (bolted to the turbo)

Possible $6.00 SES Light Fix
If you already have a bung installed, go to your local parts store and get a spark plug non fouler. They are in the HELP section part # is 42009 it is the correct size and thread (18MMx1.5).
Before starting unscrew the 02 Sensor from the exhaust or if the old system is available test fit the non fouler, if all is well it will be right.
Now take the non fouler and drill a 1/2 in. hole all the way through, make sure not to hit the threads, take your time with this step, I would suggest using a carbide bit.
Simply install the 02 Sensor into the non-fouler you will notice that the tip of the sensor is flush with the end of the non-fouler which should allow it to get hot enough, so that it doesn't trigger the SES for not being warm enough now simply
re-install the whole assembly into the pipe, reset the computer, and see if it works.
I can't guarantee that this will work, but this will definitely keep the sensor out of the direct path of the heat coming from the engine. If your SES light comes on after try using the other non-fouler that you didn't use between the pipe and the modified non-fouler.
For $6.00 and a little work it's worth a try. Good luck.

Well because I am lazy I haven't had a chance to get the second O2 installed. However, during this four day period the check engine light turned off? Does this mean the second O2 isn't needed? Would I fail emissions without the second O2 sensor hooked up?
And my wife tells me that the house isn't going to fix itself!
And my wife tells me that the house isn't going to fix itself!
I hope we are not confusing the second O2 bung with the O2 housing before the downpipe. Megan Racing's downpipe fits right up to the O2 housing without using the donut. So to answer your question no they do not leave out the O2 housing.
