New Evo VIII info!
NightCrawler, No problem...I understand what you mean. I get tired of hearing different things also. This is the first time I really believe what was told to me. I can't imagine why he would give bad info to me reference the Evo...he KNOWS he told me too much and admitted he did. If it turns out to be bad info...you can call me all the bad names you want
I really believe the j-spec Evo VIII will get some of the things we were expecting BUT we will still get a car REAL similar to the current Evo VII minus the ayc...for under 30k. The turbo and all other important pieces (brembos, etc) will remain intact. IF ayc is important you can get the setup from a Evo VII or j-spec VIII.

Maybe
is still is testing the ACD/AYC for US regs as was mentioned in another thread, along with the 6 speed. Mitsu might really want to bring both the RS and GSR version to the states. They'll have the RS version with a few extras to meet their price point of under $30K and then have the GSR version for us maniac Evo lovers!
Just a thought.broeli, did he ever say anything about the intercooler sprayer, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, or the Sports ABS?
*deleted info* he SHOULD (not that he does) know everything. He may not know what is planned for later releases yet though. He said not to expect a 6-speed on the US Evo in the very near future. I do agree with you though..they should make a couple different trim levels. I really don't know why the 6-speed wouldn't make it to us...I seriously believe the j-spec may very well get a 6-speed. I kind of hope he's wrong on some of the info..but I really doubt it.
He didn't say anything about the items you mentioned...he didn't really volunteer anything...I had to ask and do some smooth talking...at first he was going to try and get permission to answer some of my questions. But because of the circumstances and because of info that he thought I already knew (which I did know some things) from a main person in Mitsu, he went ahead and told me some details I needed. I did ask about the suspension and such to see if it would be the same as GSR or a little softer like the GTA but that was after I asked a bunch of questions already and he simply said: "I can't comment much more on the vehicle. Frankly, I've discussed it more than I should have already"

Maybe they are having problems finding suppliers for the 6-speed or working to fit it, with the drivetrain? I'm guess we're getting the same trans as the JDM. The car probably get a gas guzzler tax with the 5 speed. With the 6 we just might be able to advoid it.
Sti has 6-speed. Almost all sport cars has 6-speed and a 5 speed would be a disappointment for most. And if the JDM has a 6 and we don't i'm sure Mitsubishi will get a lots of mail concerning this issue and with no ACD and/or AYC.
4000 units will be sold not to the general public. I'm guessing the first 4000 would be all evo enthusiest who does know about the JDM spec and will complain. Probably takes a year for the general public to respond after people like me making a statement at the track.
Then again be probably find out the specs sometime in October.

It could be a cost issue also. They already said under 30k. They may feel that it is important to get it close to what the j-spec VII is AND keep it under 30k for now. Maybe when the Sti comes they can justify a little higher cost and something similar to the j-spec VIII.
Like I said the VIII we get will perform real similar to the j-spec VII. The ayc often isn't used on race Evo's..so it really isn't that important...just another complicated gizmo
If 28,600-29k is still the target price it would be a good buy..everyone agree? If you want the extra gizmos..go pay E.I. 40k for an Evo..all you'll really be paying for is ayc though.
I'll just take the US Evo VIII with full warranty for 29k and be happy
I also asked him why Mitsu has an embargo on the info for the US Evo until Jan. 5th....but he wouldn't tell me. I REALLY don't understand how they can fill orders, etc. before the launch...have them shipped and at dealers at the end of Feb. without releasing specs within the next month or so. It wouldn't make sense to start filling orders only one month before shipping...who knows though

This is my take on it.
Broeli's friend is lying to him.
Why?
This is because he knows Broeli will go and spread the rumors and this might be good thing for dis-information.
So Subaru will start thinking about the specs/pricing that Broeli said and when the actual car turns up in January(instead of March) with different specs, Mitsu will have score one on subaru. It will then be too late for Subaru to change the specs on the STi.
Broeli is being used to spread false information! Companies do that all the time, so no big deal there.

gtr, It is in my first post: "The actual embargo date on official information stands at January 5th, so no truth to information going public in two weeks. The beast will begin to be delivered to dealers at the end of February, so consider it more of a March 2003 vehicle"
RA29, He didn't know I would spread any info. And I wouldn't say he's a friend..simply a source of info
Like I said, believe whatever makes you feel good
This post wasn't started to get peoples opinion on whether it was good info. This is just info from probably the BEST source available right now. The Sti WILL have time to counter no matter what Mitsu does..so I don't buy into the bullcrap about Mitsu trying to "trick" Subaru"...hell the Sti hasn't even been announced! And the Sti won't come out until at least summer '03...plenty of time to wait until the Evo is released to have time to one up the Evo, if that's what they are planning.

Rax, when did Subaru start taking orders for the Wrx? Was it in Jan. or before? Not deposits, but when the computer system was actually assigning order #'s? Just curious.

Dont' know the exact date but it was before January. I remember talking about the orders and the new wrx site when i was at the show talking to fellow I-Club members on that forum. I almost bought one but decide to wait for this car because at that time i'd thought Mitsubishi would of antisipated and brought over the Evo last December after seeing the sales on the first month with the Wrx's.
