Facts about boost gauge and boost
Ok, correct me if I'm wrong or add if I've missed something.
Boost gauge and boost facts:
-Most of the time while driving, maybe 90% or more, you'll only see vacuum on the boost gauge. Even if you rev up past 5K rpm, you might not see any boost unless the engine has some load on it. That is going 85mph on the freeway and still be under vacuum.
-You can use the vacuum part of the boost gauge as a fuel economy meter. Try to keep it in vacuum as much as possible while driving and save gas.
-You can use a boost gauge with vacuum on a non-turbo car and use the vacuum part as fuel economy meter. More vacuum more efficient the car runs, reach 0 pressure, you've reach max air intake.
-Boost spike is when your boost goes beyond set point for few seconds or so. For example, max boost is set at 19psi but it jumps to 22psi and back down to 19psi. Cause? not sure
-Boost creep is when the boost slowly rises past set point. Max boost is set at 19psi but when WOT like in 5th gear on the freeway it slowly rises 20, 21, 22, 23, 24psi or more. Cause? not sure
That's what I've learned out of my boost gauge.
