Stock 5's and 6's are very similar in performance to that of the 7GSR, but with modifications, it throws the whole stock thing out of the window. I have an VIII MR320 anyway, so I still think newer is better, however both the ND and the RC cars are awesome

From the 7 onwards the whole of the drive train is much stronger. I remember reading an magazine article about Simon Norris's car and he said that his old 5 was at its limits with out spending loads on custom one off stuff! The 7 was much stronger!

You guy seem to be getting very few problems with drive train components, apart from transfer cases. This is a big change from the earlier evos that would destroy their rear diffs with much above stock power if launched!

wrcevo, are you a member of MLR?

Thanks Chris.

In the interior picture the tacho is redlined at 11,500rpm. Is that what they run to?! That seems like a lot of revs for a car that must be running a heap of boost?

Nopes, im not from MLR. But i totally agree with u. The 7 is alot stronger, and therefore has still potential to get much more power on it. Whereas the older ones like the 5 or 6 are already at the limits with this much power on them! Wun have much room for more power.

i looked at an article on the RC car the other day and it is safe to say that they have addressed the transmition flaws that the eariler cars had. there is NOTHING left hardly of the stock system, it is all RC own (i bet) custom stuff. proof that you can build the earlier stuff to be strong, if you have the wallet for it!

I didn't think it would handle 11,500rpm, so why is the redline there? Is the tacho made that way or something?

that seam strange. people in the UK are always talking about the rear diff blowing. i may have got it wrong but i thought it was on all the early stuff not just the 4-6's. do you guys "down under" run stock set up for your mentel drag racers? what sort of transmitions do you run if not stock? got any links to any good forums?

thanks chris.

PS. your car sounds prety hot to. what mods are you running?

hey - well at the moment i run a stock transmission with a locked centre diff, although when i didnt have my forged motor i was running a 12.4 on street tyres and standard drive train in my GSR

as for mods ummmmm:
forged motor
ported and polished head
external fuel pump with surge tank
autronic ecu
tdo6 25g+ turbo (currently getting changed)
custom manifold, exhaust
600 x 300 x 76 mm cooler
272/264 degree cams

those are the main ones - check out www.slogsr.com for the full list though and pics

oh and as for our "mental drag racers" ummmm well the guy who built my car (www.speedtechnz.com) has the plate DOCILE and runs 9's on essentially a standard drive train but that is all being changed shortly to custom built box, gears and ratios, but the specs of that are currently hush hush (he also has now tube framed the front of his evo)
