Crap! Shifter Bushing bolt and metal sleeve broke...haha

Well, i was installing my new poly shifter bushings, and as i was torqueing down the bolts to 124lbs all of a sudden snap!, and the bolts broke. Half of it in the car, half of it in my hand. Fortunatley i was able to get the bolt out of the car. Ive heard this has happend to other people as well. Im going to the dealer tommorow, if they are open on Saturdays..anyone know...? Hopefully they will have a bolt, and the metal sleeve which is bent as well.

Anyone else had this happen?

Sounds like a lot of torque for that bolt is that the correct amount?

Maybe it was 124 in-lbs? A wheel nut is only torqued to 80 - 85 ft-lbs. Is this nut much bigger than a wheel nut? Just wondering.

Indeed it is; from the Evomoto Tech site:

Reinstall all four 12mm bolts through the new poly bushings if you haven't already. There will be a small gap between the floor pan and metal sleeve because of the lower poly bushing section. Tighten the bolts down until they get "tight". This will remove the slack and press the bushing sections together to firmly hold the shifter bracket. Back off each bolt approximately 1/4 of a turn and torque to 124 IN-LBS (14 Nm). This is the high side of the factory torque specs for the bolts...

You applied 12 times the torque required, so they broke.

I saw that install article and knew it had to be a typo. No way 124 lbs. More like 24. I just tightened them until they were pretty secure and that's it. No torquing -- all hand feel.

OK, just checked the manual and the spec for those bolts is 102 inch lbs. or 12 n.m.

Good Luck.
