oh man, I wish I could tell you that it was harmless but I can't. I think it would be a good idea to take the car in to your dealership and have them take a look at the tranny. Although it sounds like he didn't get very far before you stopped the tow truck so I doubt there was any major damage.

On a side note, why in the hell would they tow your car like that?!!! There are quite a few AWD cars out there now, so you would think those "brainiac" tow truck drivers would have to know something about cars.

If he had kept going with your car your diff would have been history. It's a good thing u caught the bastard.

All I know is that it is a NO NO to tow a FWD car from the rear and a RWD car from the front. So, since our cars are AWD then it should have been placed on a low boy, flat bed.

Definitely get it checked out. An a big to the tow driver for even doing that.

was it those old cheap trucks that only grab the front wheels and the two rear wheels are on the road?

Honetly he had the right to tow your car, as much as it hurts me to say that. But and a HUGE BUT, he should have known not to touch it unless he had a low boy. Or at least call in to dispatch and ask about the cars drivetrain if he didn't know. I would look into them taking care of the bill if it needs fixed.

I would say it was towed. It was out of your control how they towed it. The dealer should side with you. I mean, yeah you were parked illegally but it doesn't give the city the right to ruin you car in the process of moving it. They have a right to tow it but should tow it properly.

yeah you kinda of right they should know what happened so they could check the right parts.

just worried that a warranty issue might arise.

that sucks! All i know is that tow trucks provide a service to Tow. Not to damage just like any other company you have to pay for the service and if something goes wrong because of bad service. it is there fault!!

what if you tell the dealer and they say "yes they should have put it on a flatbed, but it was your fault for parking there." Just WHAT IF. Now you told the dealer and they may not cover the repairs.

I know a friend who got his car towed. The tow truck driver actually jimmied his door open, breaking the door-lock mechanism to move his auto-transmission and he had to pay to fix it. Dont ask me how they got away with this. I'm not trying to scare you, nor am I siding w/ the tow truck company cuz i think he was an idiot, but I'd be a bit more cautious in telling the dealer it broke while being towed cuz you parked in the wrong place.

Any towing company that tows a car is reponcible for damages once the hook up and take it. That is part of the deal and is one of the reasons that they have to have a permit to tow.
