Need help, buying evo with minor flaws.. advice pls!
Dealer is selling me an evo for $25,500 17k miles
problems:
1-windshield has a crack the size of a small pebble on the bottom left driver's side.
how much would it be to fix this? I will try to talk the dealer down the cost of repairing this
2-Backseat Arm rest very loose and is only secure on one side... One side looks like the small bar will not go fully into the socket -- will warranty cover this damage? how much to fix? (nothing looks like its physically broken)
3-Aftermarket (autometer) Boostguage installed on the drivers pillar might be an indication of boost controller
4-Exhaust was modified in some way, It is loud as heck and sounds ricey, not sure if the person just added a larger exhaust pipe?
I test drove the car and it seems to drive perfectly fine, but noticed a slight bump when accelerating sharply and switching to the next gear, feels exactly like someone left a basketball in the trunk, there were the rear mats in the trunk but i doubt that would have caused it??
pls give me some advice I really want an evo and this is the only one i will be able to afford in my area. thanks!

Man I would have it checked out by another dealer or shop first. If they wont let you do that make sure the warranty is intact. If the window has just a bullseye crack glass shops can repair for about $40. I think the warranty should cover the arm rest unless it is obviously abused. A lot of people put on boost guages without the boost controllers, but like I said, make sure the warranty is still valid. I think most people probably do cat backs on the exaust.
dont know where your located but... in newyork we have autocritics which come and look at the car for you (cost $100) and determine what if any problem must be fix or need to be fixed best of luck
more details on that bump thing while changing gears. was there a noise-- if so, from where? was the noise or bump feeling immediately after you lifted or after you engaged the next gear?
also I totally agree on price. that car is worth more like $22-23k. people are buying leftover 2003s with no miles (like mine, 8 mi) for $26,000-28,000 and a new 04 RS goes for $27k full msrp.

I would honestly hold out or at least have a reputable mechanic check it out. I just bought my Evo for $23,500 with only 11K on it bone stock. I did have to fly to the gulf coast and drive it back to Kansas but it's worth it.

That's too expensive even for a stock evo with 17k miles.
1) make them repair visual damages
2) like everyone said, make sure you get a warranty (beware that only NEW evos get the good warranty)
3) try to get a new clutch. how careful would _you_ be on a clutch if you knew your were trading in a car?
4) Then get a professional mechanic to look at the engine.
5) Get a copy of the carfax report and service reports. Make sure it's gotten proper oil changes at 5,10, & 15k.
6) Is it still on stock tires? If so, they are almost dead. It'll cost $700 to get new ones.
In my (limited) opinion, all of those things would have to check out before i paid over 22k for an evo.
