15,000 Mile Service Wow
15,000 Mile Service Wow
I am just trying to gauge what others paid for their 15,000 Evo maintenance. Around here this service consists of:
Synthetic Oil Change
Brake & Clutch Inspection
Coolant Flush and Refill
Tire Rotation
Fuel, Oil & Air Filter Change
Basically a pretty comprehensive servicing, but costs $239!
Before you reply with "do it yourself", I really don't have the time with three cars, a full time job and new house. Does it seem reasonable?
Thanks!

You could do that all on your own for less than $70 and 2 hours of your time
Instructions to do the Oil/Coolant/Air filter are usually in the owners manual. $20 will get you 5qt's of Mobil1 at wal*mart, a good oil filter will run you about $5. A good quality paper air filter will run $6-7 or just buy a K&N panel for $40, never worry about buying another paper again.
Buy good coolant and Use distilled water, (around $16)
Buy some turbo friendly fuel injector cleaner, dump it in your gas tank next time you fill up ($10 for Really good stuff)
Check brakes, psh, look in your wheel see how much pad life you have left and make sure their not cracked or if your rotors are getting gouged up. Rotating your tires, even a monkey could do this in 10 minutes.
All the stuff mentioned can be accomplised by any novice that can read an owners manual.

which brand of injector cleaner do you recommend?
How are they checking the clutch w/o removing the tranny?
I thought the coolant can go 30K miles also. 15k is premature.
And is there a fuel filter? I thought only the tea bag strainer. And if there was an external fuel filter, i highly doubt it would need to be changed at 15K.
These dealers push unnessesary work. All you really need to do is oil and filter change and rotate your tires. And a new air filter if you are one of the few of us running a stock filter. You can inspect the brakes pads and under body yourself.
Just ask for a oil change and tire rotation. Then go to the parts counter and buy a new air filter and put in on yourself. It's just 4 clips and 20 seconds of your time. Dealers make a lot of money on these so called "package" deals. They give you a list of 100 things they do and in reality it's just a glorified oil change and they bank all the extra money. The bigger services are spark plug changes, timing belt, brake fluid flush.
It seems like the dealer left out one of the most important things - driveline fluid change. Tranny, transfer and rear diff fluid change should be done now instead of the coolant change.

$240 doesn't sound too bad if they really do all the inspections and tightening as they are suppose to at 15k.
That's about the same price I paid for my Accord at 15k and it doesn't have 3 diffs and synthetic oil.

I just had my 15,000 mile service done, but i haggled on what services i wanted done. In other words, I only wanted oil changed and tranny/differential fluids changed and none of the other mumbo jumbo. All of this cost $170. I thought it was fair, and they also found a leaky gasket somewhere in the drivetrain which they replaced under warranty.
SoR, right, the maintenance schedule under severe says change the transfer oil, air filter, oil & filter, transaxle fluid, and rotate tires. Everything else is "inspect" which should be done with the basic oil change. Most techs will do a once over while the car is on the lift.
So $239 is not bad *if they are doing the coolant, all driveline fluids, synthetic oil change and tire rotation plus inspections. But I doubt that price includes the all 3 driveline fluids. That alone is about $180 at my dealer.

I only paid $72... Hella cheap.. I know. I couldn't believe it... Of course the dealership also changes my oil every 5,000 miles for free. Mobil 1 with Mitsu filter... I change it every other time myself...
The deal when i bought the car was the free oil changes so long as I got all my scheduled maintenance performed at recommended intervals and paid for it... So if figured it would be $200 or so, and would still be kinda worth it if they gave me 3 free oil changes (which would be about $50-60 if I actually paid someone to change it)
I love my dealership..

Be careful when sending your evo's for that type of service, take it to a reputable shop/dealer. For me, I'll do this on my own(Oil change, rotate tires, flush/refill fluids). I don't think they can inspect the clutch condition, probably they will just check clutch pedal play which we can do by ourselves and save money for mods.
