stick shift squeek

I wasn't sure exactly where to put this...so here it is. I did a search, but couldn't find anything, so if there is a thread already made, please direct me to it.

I got my evo about a month ago, and I never noticed it until a couple days later, but in between 1st and 2nd it squeeks. It usually happens when I shift from 4th to 2nd while coming out of a turn. I can make it squeek by rubbing it in between the gears, by grabbing the shifter, and just putting a little bit of pressure on it while moving it. It doesn't effect driving in any way, and doesn't make shifting feel any different. It just squeeks, not all the time, and not really loud and annoying. I was just wondering if this is normal, maybe for a new car or something, and if this happens to anyone else. Thanks.

Mine did that for a little while too. Like when I was at a light just moving the shifter around. Pushing left with light pressure between 1st and 2nd. It went away in a week or so. No biggy just breaking in the plastic retainer on the shifter ball.

I had the same problem. Just take it in to the dealer, they'll lube it up for you.

Mine did the same thing when i shift from 1st to 2nd. Replaced my shifter with kartboy short shifter, and eliminated that squeaks/rubbing problem when shifting.

Yes, mine did that when I first had it for a little while. Just take it to the dealer and they will lube it. Ever since then, it never did it again.
