The Countdown Begins!
A very good source tells me the following EVO 8 U.S. specs:
Lancer Evolution "VIII" version for U.S.
260-271hp
0-60mph in 4.6
13.4 qtr mile
release date late Jan '03
will be 2003 model
2004 model to have a few more mods
confirmed to have aluminum hood & front fenders
carbon fiber rear spoiler (top piece not painted)
GS-R version, retail about $30K-$32k U.S.D. + typical dealer markup, you can almost count on it
Mitsu expects to build 4000-600 for U.S. market
Silver - Blue - White - Yellow - Red - Black colors
Option to have the smaller ox-rally wing (why bother ?)
Optional sunroof
235/r45/17 tires
HID headlights
Rear LSD diff
Brembo 4-wheel disc brakes
Some of this may be known already, but it's nice to confirm some of it because U.S. spec cars are usually de-tuned and missing all the hot stuff that Europe and Asia get.

Dang everyone has a "source"!
Thanks though for the info, very similar to what we've already heard.
Update on the official Lancer Evolution website:
Besides the advertisement to win some Toyo tires, I came across this from
Not such good news...

At the Lancer Evolution website there are no specific details of the Evolution vehicle coming to the US. Until the car's official debut, the site will only provide content relating to the vehicle's historical accomplishments. There are plenty of action-packed racing images, downloadable wallpaper, and video images of the EVO sliding, drifting, and flying over the dirt, pavement and snow.

And lastly, those hp number and those times don't even match up. A proper Evo VII with about 310-315hp gets those numbers - how is a Evo with 260-271hp going to get them?
Cheers,
Paul Hansen

I guess there isn't any AYC/ACD? Oh well

That is also correct, no AYC or ACD. The U.S. always seems to get cheated from the best stuff. Even the Recaro's are suppose to be slightly modified, not so snug of a fit.

Hey, just passing along info that I was told. I understand your point, does make sense. Maybe it's a lighter car, they are also suppose to have thinner glass in doors. Either way, it'll still kick butt on that Subaru WR-X.

Well, unfortunatly they're importing this car to a country where 60% of the population is overweight, and 1/3 are obese. Your average American won't fit in a racing seat.

hey, itt'l keep the fat chicsk out of the car, thats not necessarily bad.. I think i'd be willing to keep a crowbar in the backseat to pry my *** out of the seat each day, just to have that built in "filter".
actually, that'd be a nice aftermarket addition... a racing seat horn.. kinda like a shoe horn for your ***..

recaros
I talked to teh head of Marketing for Subaru who drove the sti and the EVO VII. I also spoke with his counterpart at MMC who had driven the VII. Both said that the recaros were built for little Japanese people and they were very difficult to fit into, even for a non obese American (there must be one or two). The seat mod is very necessary. I lived in Japan for eight months and believe me, we are giants compared to the average native.
