Reliability

Does anybody know how reliable EVOs are? I was thinking of getting one but am having second thoughts about spending over $30K for a Mitsubishi. Are they as reliable as Hondas or Toyotas? Assuming that you keep them stock of course. I would hate to spend that much money on a car and have it break down in the next 2 years or so. I mean we've never really had an EVO in the U.S. before so we really can't look back and say that it's reliable...

The clutch could be a problem if you drive it hard. Otherwise I havn't had any problems.

I drive my car hard with no clutch issues at all thus far. The evo is pretty much my Daily Driver and toy and it has not given me one problem other than an annoying dash rattle that i cannot find.

36,000 miles. Stock clutch. 300+ WHP. Several long distance trips (texas, carolina's etc.)

Not a problem to speak of but a failed power steering pump fluke. Fixed under warranty.

If you take care of it and don't drive it too hard then yea its very reliable if you race it like a lot of us do then that does effect reliability as it does on every other car too. Im still on my original clutch and I drive agressivly but im not into hardcore racing. Do expect to go through tires every 10-12k miles though.

No, nobody on the Evo board would know if these cars are reliable. Good question though. I hope somebody can help you out.

If you drive it like a dragster, you are gonna trash your clutch, maybe transfer case. If you drive it like an AWD performance sedan, and know what you are doing, then you should not have a problem. I drive mine hard, and have on occasion, put it up wet ... I have had no problems. I've got 18.5k on it now (need to update my sig).

I've driven nothing but Mitsus, since 1987, I change the oil, I do the scheduled maintenance, and I don't have problems (Starion, Mirage Turbo, Mighty Max, Eclipse, Evo).

The dealership I use is a Honda/Mitsu dealer. The comment that has been made is that if Mitsu customers were as good about maintenance as the Honda customers are, they'd have a lot less to do on the Mitsu side of the service bay.

some guys had 60+k miles on it. you should ask him.

Also, automobile long term test car had to have its clutch replaced at 20,000 miles.

I thought that was fairely funny.
