Replacing stock speakers? ANyone experience hang-ups?
I just bought a set of 4 Infinity Kappa 62.5i speakers to replace the factory ****cones and was planning on installing tonight. Ive done more than a few stereo installs in my day, so Im sure it will be a relative cake walk, but I was just hoping to hear about any hangups that othres ran into while replacing them.
ANything in particular I should be weary of with the door panels and such?

A friend of mine replaced his system and he also has a bby Evo. He has only had one problem, it looks like the door speakers are a little large and when he lowers the windows the backs of the speakers peel off his tints.
In other words make sure you have clearance. If you want to PM him his screenname here is PRVRT.

Sounds like you may need a custom baffle to clear the glass.
I had to for my regular lancer, out of MDF.
On my RS, the back speaker holes were tiny bigger than 6.5" aftermarket speakers. I'm going to try to seal w/ dynamat.

I installed Alpine SPS-170As in all four locations a couple of weeks ago. It went fairly well, using the adaptors provided by Crutchfield. It's a two person job, as you'll need help in getting the screws to catch the factory grills on the rear deck. Putting the door panel back on is a bit tricky: the uppermost piece of trim is a little larger than the space between the rear view mirror wedge at the front of the door and the window frame at the rear of the door. I scratched that wedge a bit on my first try, before getting the hang of it.
You didn't mention if you were replacing the factory radio or not. If you do, watch out for those screws that attach the mounting brackets to the head unit. One side was fine, but the screws on the other side were tightened so hard that I couldn't get them out and ended up stripping the phillips head. I had to drill the stupid things out and use replacement screws.
I thought the components on the inside of the door were sloppily applied, and had to reattach the plastic sheeting and some of the styrofoam blocks. The passenger side door was missing the block entirely. So much for the fabled Japanese construction quality...

OK, I have the exact same speakers. No problems at all, they fityt easy. The holes are slightly bigger than the speaker, but I was able to center them up and drill new holes. I did back the speakers with dynamat, and I would reccommend that you do this (I came back and did it later). I did not have any clearance problems. I also glued the cross overs in th door with a bit of silicone and ran all new wires. The tweeters were a little more difficult to install. If you need some pictures of them installed, let me know.
