Unhappy Time to buy?!

I've been waiting for this ride for a long time!
I've owned numerous cars, but have never found a new car that's been worth the instant new car depreciation as you drive out of the lot - hence, I've never purchased a new car before.

Anyways I promised myself about 4 years ago, whilst daydreaming about the impossible, that if the Evo ever came here, I would buy it!

My concern now is, will the first batch be subject to rediculous premiums? I personally will be very happy to see no advertising at all on this car! I feel that these cars should be available to us deciples at a fair price. The more people knocking down MMC's doors to buy an Evo, the higher the premium will be.

I also wonder how many amongst us are ready to sign / purchase an Evo now.
I wonder how strong the demand will be, and how long it will take for the price to come down to MSRP?

I bought an 01' Honda S2000 in early Feb. of 01' and paid MSRP - since that car came out in 2000 - my guess is that it will take the first model year for the dealers to stop gouging.

I think you are probably right Easy.

Regardless of MSRP, the dealers set price based on demand vs supply. If there's a waiting list, dealer prices could easily be anywhere around $35K.

I don't like the idea of paying over MSRP, but I hope I don't have to wait too long

This car is saying buy me!!!!

I was told by a salesperson that Mitsubishi is frowning upon their dealships selling the Evo at inflated prices. They were adopting a stand similar to that of Nissan with the new Z. If you oversold the car, and they found out about it - mostly through customer complaints - then you wouldn't get future allotments. Ford started doing this with their SVT line a couple of years ago, and I for one think it is a great thing. This does not mean that there won't be dealerships gauging some of us, but hopefully it can be kept to a minimum.

I have talked to two Nissan dealerships in town, and neither is selling above sticker. And I think (not sure) that Wayzata Mitsubishi and Wayzata Nissan are owned by the same people... (Wayzata Mitsubishi is the biggest MMC dealership in town and they already have a bunch of deposits)

I hope you're right, Trigeek37.
But as I recall the first batch of the new Thunderbirds sold at $10G over MRSP! The first batch of M3's as well, were way over MSRP.
I'm not saying that there is any similarity here, except to say we have no way of estimating what the initial demand for these cars is going to do to the price.

Smanders, curse me, but I can't remember where the hell I got that pic from. It's one of my favorites that I just pulled from my archives - thought you guys might enjoy.
PS: I want a silver too

Dealerships around here are already not willing to take orders at MSRP. That means they will likely be charging an additional "market adjustment" premium for each car.

And if it is true that Mitsu is frowning upon dealers who mark up their cars, that would be great. But they probably don't frown upon dealers offering rediculously low trade in prices to make up for the addtl profit they couldn't make by jacking up the price of the EVO....which is exactly what greedy delaerships will be doing..

I've been through all this before when I bought my 2000 Integra Type R. You have to get as much as you can in writing early on in the ordering process if you expect to NOT get gouged while buying a brand new limited production vehicle.

Good point SC. - We should agree on a price up front if we're putting in an order. I'd like to test drive it as well.
I want to drive the G35 coupe too, and dare I say - compare them. It's not as fast, but it's food for thought.
