Headlight burned out after 13 months

On the way home last night I realized my right front headlight is burned out. Geez, I only got the car last July and I already have to replace a bulb.

Is the bulb something I can get on my own at say, AutoZone, or should I just go to the dealer. How much will it set me back?

Thanks,
Brad

For your main lights? Ouch, not suppose to do that. The bulbs are somethin like $110 a pop. I heard the life on those should be about 10,000 hours = 416 days, 1.14 years. (Of constant on time)

Isn't that covered by new vehicle warranty (3yr/36k)? I don't think anybody could argue that you 'abused' them.

They should last a long time, unless you drive with them on all the time... but I don't know if you can get D2S bulbs at a regular auto store. Never had to do that before...

Even if you drive with them all the time, it should at least last you year or more.

Sounds like warranty issue for me, since these aren't the cheapo HID look alike bulbs.

Have the dealer check the control unit. I had the same light go out at nearly the same time (14 months) and it was the control unit that was the culprit. Covered by warrantee.

Take it to the dealer. It should be covered under warranty still.

Man, the dealer won't cover it under warranty because he said they have photos of me participating in an SCCA track day and therefore will not cover anything because I put uneccessary stresses on the car. I am sooo mad, the dealer sucks. Mitsubishi sucks. Everyone sucks.

Hahahhaha, j/k. Enough with mocking owners with warranty problems.

I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow to look at it. They said it is definately under warranty so all I lose is a little time.

There you go. See, that warranty isn't completely useless

Update: The dealer replaced the right headlight and control unit under warranty.

Next I have to have the heater replaced because the temperature control knob keeps binding, meaning it takes a lot of effort to turn it from cold to hot. The dealer would have done it yesterday, but did not have the part in so I have to go back next week. This is also under warranty.

HID bulbs don't burn out, per se, they have no filament to break. They should last the life of the car, easily... so sounds like a manufacturing defect to me. My car's going in next month for some fabric peeling from the door panels, a clutch rattle (wish me luck!), and a rear wiper that tends to flop around onto the trunk.

BTW, that headlight costs $1100 to replace, so be thankful for that warranty.
