wouldn't you feel all four tires spinning, and hear them spin?

quick slip is the best method.. not a drop.... if u time it right... you will slip it enough for the clutch to grab nicely, but not so long that you burn the clutch either..... and minimum shock to the tranny... this weekend i did my first autox and i finally learned how to do quick launches.... reved to 3.5-4k and did a quick slip... during initial tire spin, rev hit 5k then boom... not even a trace of clutch burn reached my nose

Clutch

You will know without a doubt when you're frying your clutch. It's the worst smell the Evo emits and the smell stays there for minutes afterward. You might have messed up something else on those launches. Your nose will tell you if it's the clutch.

IMO The only way to launch this car with the stock clutch semi successfully is to dump it while reving at 6000rpm and pray. Good luck!
I wouldnt dump on the clutch at the track. I wouldnt dump it all. You can make a good launch by revving the motor and getting a feel of feathering the clutch and letting it go. I wouldnt hold my foot to the floor to 6k and dump it. Just be careful man. They put VHT on there, (very sticky stuff). Helps traction on the launch. You'll really burn up your clutch there. Not sure what all drag strips use, but when you stage and you hear the tires sticking to the pavement when the car is rolling to the line. Yep, thats VHT!

If you are referring to a circular track or what not then that may be different. I am under the assumption we are talking about a drag strip. Peace

i think he's talking about the autox tracks. I do the 3k quick slip on autox too, since the tracks down here are gay, especially the ATL ones...

I don't get why they put a curve on the start. It's almost impossible to launch your car...

I was talking dragstrip. I slip my clutch but it is a Cusco twin. However, my boy Smoggy has a stocker with over 20 gs on the odometer and several dumps in the 5-6 thou range. My slippage with the stocker equaled bye bye after 2700 miles. Good luck however which way you choose to launch. It really is an art and with trial and error you will find out what technique works for you.

it's hard to launch those twins, but when you nail it, it's beautiful. shifts like butter.

with this in mind, do you think you can launch at 3-4 and not have to worry about breaking ur TC?

can you get as good of a time only launching at 3k?

That is exactly what happened to me. I think I may have hit fuel cut-off... but I don't think you have driven your car until you have hit the cut-off (lol - at least ALL my sports cars have been to fuel cut-off at somepoint).

fuel cutoff on evo isn't as bad as some other cars. It's pleasant instead of neck breaking.

Aras actually did a 13.7 on a 1/4 mile with a stock evo. I think she may have launched at 4kRpm and slipped the clutch.

if you do 3 to 4k rpm drop or slip, I think you'll be fine, until you do it too much.

I've done 6krpm drop, then 6krpm slip one after another, about 4 of those in a roll and it burnt my clutch but my tranny is fine.

ahh yes, but with the stock clutch? i think if you did repeated clutch drops with a heavy duty clutch you can seriously damage ur drivetrain.

guess i wont be taking any chances- no 6k drops for me.

im just wondering how good of a time i can get doing a 3-4k start.

MAJOR PROBLEM

Last night I took a girlfriend out to a very deserted country road around here... and we were gonna practice the launch.
You took your girlfriend to a deserted country road, to, practice the launch? Dude, if your taking your girlfriend to a deserted country road there are much better things to do.
