No Evo for Canada..6000 for US
A new model is soon to be introduced into the JDM sold as COLT. This car will be smaller than the Lancer and it is my guess that Mitsu will eventually select this base as their rally platform.
As with the Gallant before the Lancer is getting too big. Rallying seems to be the domain of little cars like the 206 and Focus.

Arrrrr CRAP
Thats mean I dont need sell my Eclipse for a EVO anymore.
Lucky I havent sold it yet.
Stupid
, I think they have something against Canadian
But I guess it still good
That way I can keep my Eclipse and save up for a EVO when it does come to Canada.

Up North
To quote the article:" We'll probably have to wait until the next redesign, when the car will be built for full North American compliance......."
Is the 2.4L DOHC motor coming back? This engine was used in the rare '94 Galant GS. Perhaps they are dusting it off, teaching it some new tricks like MIVEC (and turning it around 180 degrees) to put it in this new Lancer. I hope they don't try to keep five types of Lancers on our lots. Talk about confusing everybody, especially the insurance companies. They'd better have their VIN decoders warmed up. Maybe they'll put the old 3000GT SL DOHC NA V6 motor in the Eclipse so we can really have some fun.
Personally, i rather they put in the bigger engine for the redesigned Lancer.
Just feels more "right" that way. Otherwise, it will just be another econobox with a turbo in it (a la mazda speed protege(turbo protege), that new dodge SVT4 or sumthin(turbo neon)...etc

I wouldn't be surprised to see the larger 2.4L I4 replace the N/A 2.0L I4 in the US Lancer. This makes sence if Mitsubishi is planning on making a run on the Impreza. There have also been plenty of rumors floating around of a lower HP 2.0L turbo, which again would match up with the WRX (isn't there a 233 HP Cedia in Japan right now?). And if Subaru really does bring a 22b or B202 (whatever this years special edition is called) expect Mitsubishi to answer with another Extreme or Zero Fighter edition. This has been done before in the early 90s with JDM sports cars.
look at how different, but similar the:
1993 RX7
1990 300ZX
1995 Supra TT
1994 (?) 3000GT VR4
they are wildly different cars, but all have similar performance from the factory. The WRX has proven to be so popular that Subaru is making bank accross their entire vehicle line. That combined with the surging popularity of WRC and other types of rally racing means there is a large potential for more cars that follow this trend. MB has been making waves about getting into rally racing, esp. here in America. It's been strongly rumored by Daimler that this years Neon SRT-4 is testing the waters and a AWD varient is possible in the coming years.
sorry for the long post...

Aww Mann You Canadians Crack Me Up
Better Juss Move Down Here Then
I heard from a reliable source that the new American made EVO will still run Turbo 2.0 yet more restricted. It will have around 250HP and will not have the multiple differential setups that the japanese one has. The suspension will also not be the same. And one thing that i'm especially disapointed with is that the American Lancer will not be seam WELDED.

I'm, erm, sort of AWOL still.
Off the top of my head.
New Colt is, well, a redesign of the previous Colt. Ground up redesign, though, and reportedly "one of the best Mitsubishi's in a long time". It is also the most important car for MMC right now - while Americans won't get this concept, Europe and Asia will - it's the car MMC will sell the most of there. It won't become the next Evo, though, at least not for a while. Ralliart couldn't get a viable hi-po AWD driveline into it.
Can't really comment on some other things yet. ***** in a vice, etc., etc.
I've been consigned to a 8-year old Miata for the moment. Luckily, it's producing about 40-50 more hp via AVO stage 3 NA tune, upgraded brakes, swaybars and rubber. Nearly as quick as a S2000 in a straight line, and absolutely slaughters it in the twisties. Straight through exhaust system gives it a tone that works better than viagra. The things I have to put up with...
Cheers,
