Canada is not getting the Evo VIII in Jan 2003. But with the new redesign coming in Aug 2003 it sounds like we will be getting the Evo later in the year. Sounds like Paul Hansen was right all along.
is just making the Evo just another trim level within the Lancer lineup. You think
will make a Evo IX only 8 months after the Evo VIII? I think they are just going to call it just plain Evo. Could the new bigger engine be that 2.4 GDI engine? How many of you in the US are going to wait for the redesigned Lancer in Aug 2003 instead of getting the Evo VIII. I guess if you you really don't like the looks of the Evo VIII you can wait for the redesign.
New engines...
I believe that new engine that will go in between the Lancers that are here already and the EVO is going to be the one from the Eclipse (or maybe both of them). Both of those engines are larger than 2.0 litters. Also, that GDI one could be an option too, but I am not sure about the gasoline issues that we have here that go along with new engines...

Canada still won't be getting the Evolution anytime soon. The redesigned model they speak of will be the model between the EVO and the Lancer: basically a Lancer OZ with a Turbo. Who knows maybe they will call it the EVO in Canada. But it won't be the Evo. It won't be the same turbo, engine or even have all wheel drive like the actual EVO.

To quote the article:" We'll probably have to wait until the next redesign, when the car will be built for full North American compliance......."
"In the meantime, a redesigned Lancer will be introduced in August 2003, hot on the heels of its Canadian debut this year. This is the second year for the current Lancer in the US. It was introduced in Japan a year earlier..... "
"What we're aiming for," continued Mr. Gagnon, is a full range of Lancers from the base models through to the EVO."
The Evo is based on the Lancer platform so if it's redesigned Canada will be getting the same Evo as the US. It will just happen later. Don't forget this article is from CanadianDriver.com so it's refering mainly to the Canadian market.

The S2000, which is similar in price and of relatively limited appeal, came out in the fall of '99 as a MY2000, with first (model) year sales of around 9200 cars. Many sold for $5000 over MSRP. Second model year sales were 9900. Dealers were price gouging well into MY2001, and only towards the spring of 2001 (after 15000+ cars sold) did cars start regularly going for MSRP. I would suspect a similar trend when the Evo comes out.
Fingers crossed
Well I think there is a little more gouging for cars such as the S2000 more so than types like the Evo. Just look at the Miata..it was selling for well over msrp when it came out. I think the fact it was a sporty convertible and it was a Honda made them in demand. Not as many people will want to spend 30k for a sporty 4 dr Mitsubishi. That is just my opinion.
You may be right though..considering magazines will probably rave about it and hype it up big time. At least there are a good amount of dealers that will sell for msrp..and I'm happy I'll be paying under msrp

The bigger engine is most likely going to be the
2.4l I-4 (4G64) with variable valve timing (revised MIVEC maybe...)
has announced that the upcoming Colt compact, based on the CZ2 concept, will also have a VVT engine.
This could mean
is developing and new engine family or reviving the MIVEC line...
Maybe Paul Hansen has more knowledge of this...?
