Then again, turning on the AC before shutting the car down allows for condensation to build up along the ducts, allowing for mildew to grow, ultimately causing you to blow mildew into the cabin in the future (allergies, nasty smell, etc). It is good habit to turn off the AC button but leave the fan on about a minute or two before shutting off the car. I say just let the turbo timer do its job.

Whatup,

When I had my Integra GSR, while waiting in staging lanes at an Autox, we would turn the car off, but leave the ignition in accessory or whatever, and turn on the AC so the fan would blow, but not turn the compressor on (car isn't running). This would help cool the engine and I suppose would work in staging lanes at a drag strip as well...

Haven't been to a drag strip or autox with my Evo yet, so haven't tried it.

Take care,

So, how many "turbos" does your Evo have? Mine only came with one...

Don't forget that the A/C condensor sits right in front of the Radiator, the condersor in its self is another radiator for the a/c which gets hot. Now with that sitting infront of the radiator for the engine it heat soaks the air before it gets a chance to go through the cars radiator. Which does not allow it to cool off as well . Which makes your car run hotter.

When you turn on the A/C, it pushes the fans to cool the radiator due to the increased load. An Evo's AC compressor automatically disengages at full throttle. AC raises temps in the motor due to increased heat but is counteracted by the fans running constantly. When Im at the track, and in staging on a busy night, I turn the climate temp to FULL HOT, turn on the AC and get out of the car. The underhood heat goes dramatically down and the engine is significantly cooler.

Actually last time I check the A/C compressor did not turn of at full throttle. which is why your car feels slower and you lose power.

Yea, the air that passes over the turbo is hot and comes out hot either way, the AC blows the air right over the turbo and at a much stronger rate, i believe this aids in fanning away the extra heat coming from the turbo, therefore adding to the cooling process. I dont think the heat reduction is a lot, but i definitley believe it helps cool the turbo somewhat faster..

Isn't it true that running the climate control to HOT extracts heat from the engine? Anyone learn in Driver's Ed that if your engine overheats the best thing to do is turn your heat on, not your AC?

usually when i want to speed around, or race...i put the Heat all the way to the max, turn off the A/C button, and put the fans at number 4 (full blast) i feel like a little bit of power is restored to my engine, of course you have to ride with your windows down.

It is all speculation until you put a thermocouple on the turbo and measure the temp of the housing with AC on/off.

just before I stage, I'll turn the heat on full blast for a minute and this helps a bit.

I can't see the AC cooling the turbo, since it's really the oil and the water in the turbo that's doing most of the job cooling it.
