Is my/your AC running right? Plus a Turbo Cooling Trick..

My AC constanly turn on the fan for a while, and then shuts off for like 5seconds, and then comes right back on for a while. Is this normal.. My AC reallly Kills my power, and ive even stalled before. I cant help but use it out here. On a positive side, Turning the AC on when youve arrived at your destination does help cool the turbos a lot faster. I call it my, Turbo Cooling Button.. hehe

The cooling fan is always engaged when you have the AC on. I your at idle, the compressor clutch should engage to take the load of the motor at low RPM. You might have a problem with the compressor clutch if it keeps turning on/off. Stalling is probably due to the compressor running at idle when it shouldn't.

The ac causes engine temp to rise, not fall. I'm curious as to why you think this cools your turbo?

any proof of that?

It does work, but you can't put the AC on full cold to make it work effectively. In my WRX with the factory gauge pack I could watch the oil temps drop 10 degrees celsius when running the AC right before I shut the engine down.

Well besides the fact that most manufactures tell you to turn off the AC when your car is overheating lets see if I can explain it.

The AC is driven by the belt. This is why you loose power with ac on from the added stress. This added stress requires your engine use to use more power, more power = more fuel/combustion, which produces more heat. If you could convince the car that the ac was on without it being in the car, you'd see the car producting higher RPMS at idol.

I'm probably not explaining this right, but its bed time and I'm going there now

the AC turns on automatically if you are using a particular temperature control setting. it will even turn on without lighting the green AC button. this has been discussed before, do a search or read your manual.

Also with the AC on, the shifting is much more rough.

I know the AC makes ur engine run harder, therefore higher engine temps, But when your Sitting stopped and cooling down, turning your AC on does cool down the turbos a lot faster.

Turning on the AC makes your radiator fans come on when the coolant temp exceeds 'normal operating temp'( via a thermostat ). If you idle the car with the AC on, the fans will kick off when the coolant temp returns to the normal range. Since that is as cool as your engine and oil and coolant( and turbo ) will get, might as well turn it off then...

Not sure, but I think he means that turning on the AC makes the "radiator" fan start running, to pull air through
the condensor, which blows air on to the engine/turbo.
