Im moving to the USA together with my Evo
Hey man.. I'm pulling for you to bring the car here too!.
It's not the LHD conversion that's the problem. It's the engine, power, cats, etc. and also the fact that the car itself might not have met the safety requirements for the US. That would mean, adding more catalytic converters to pass emissions, putting on a new bumper to fit bigger beams, de-tuning the engine to accept the low rating gas... there's just alot of stuff to do. I wouldn't be happy to see that TME getting chopped up just so you can drive it here. It would be a shame to mess with that car. Just think... if it were that easy... I might have a Sylvia, Impreza 22B, Skyline and any other JDM car already. And I'm sure everyone else and their mother, would have too.
But... definitely... Good luck, pare.

Here's some info for ya that might help you out.
http://www.nhtsa.com/cars/rules/import/index.html
list of legal importers...
http://www.nhtsa.com/cars/rules/impo...t05282004.html
Vehicles allow to be imported...
http://www.nhtsa.com/cars/rules/import/ELIG071404.html
the first link also shows other options for you to import your vehicle.. as a show car or race car... meaning... it's not a street legal vehicle. That if you get caught with it.. I assume they can impound the car and have it destroyed at will.

Where are you moving? you can import it. but no Department of Licensing in the United States will give you a registration because there is no government agency that will issue a Vehicle Identification Number for that car. Off-road is all you can do, and in past discussions people have mentioned that US Customs will confiscate and destroy the car if you keep it here too long. If I were you I would bring it, buy a 1997 Mirage, swap VIN numbers, then license it in a rural area that doesn't require emissions testing. And hide it from Customs.

regarding gas, you wll only be getting 91 octane. but some gas stations like 76 sell 100 octane for 5 bucks a gal. you just have to do a search of where they sell it.
good luck and i hope you will be able to bring the car here.

Well the car is actually LHD. When the car was bought, it was already LHD. So nomore problems with the conversion. Mitsubishi released limited models of the TME that are LHD and we are a country lucky enough to have been supplied a sufficient number of these models.

Nah I cant let go of this baby. Shes too beautiful to let go of. Im willing to bite the bullet and pay for the legalization rather than sell her back home or leave her back in my garage. Besides, im quite sure ill be one of those few people driving around the streets of California in a TME Evo 6. Pinoy pride!

You dont know what the US is yet. They will ask you for crash test. I have been through the process and they make me give up. Too much money over 20 K and too much time involved. They will make your life hell even if you are able to bring it here and the DMV was fine the DOT will ask for crash test to be performed on the USA soil. How many EVOS you will have to crash to prove that its safe??? 2 to 3 years ago it was much easier but now they are making it almost impossible. anyways, Iknow a sneaky way to do it but its not easy too but its cheaper. I am busy now so I will post here again some time.
Mhyar
Too bad they can't legalise it, what a nice looking car you got on your hands!
If you really had the money to do it, in which you probably wouldent want to do it this way. Find a 2000 US spec Mirage body shell (Easy to come by) have your car stripped and convert the mirage to an Evo by using all of your Evo TME parts. It would be expensive but, thats the only way I could think of enjoying a TME on public US roads.
Im almost wondering if you could pry the VIN's from the Evo and find VIN plates from a mirage to stick on there.... It'd be illegal, but it'd work.

-or- put on mirage badges and steal vins but if they figure it out it will get impounded and prolly crushed, a site Im sure would be more heartbreaking than leaving it your garage back home

Skylines get sold here for 100K do you have 100k? the only way to make it work is to buy a mirage here an swap Vin numbers and pray that a cop cant tell the difference other than that start lookin for a buyer.
there's a guy on this forum selling his Evo 6.5 TME in Florida. He swears his Evo 6 is street legal. You might want to contact him and ask him what he did to legalize the car.
