bumper on airplane?
Random question, but I will be going to GA in the next couple days for a couple weeks on business and I was wondering about stopping by Boost-Solutions and picking up a Gialla bumper. instead of paying over $100 for shipping, is it possible to check it on a plane when I return home? Would it be more risky to get cracked?
It'll probably cost you anyways. I've been on several surfing trips and most airlines charge an extra $100 per board bag due to the large size. I'd imagine you'd have the same issue with the bumper, so it'd probably be better to ship it. Additionally, if it is damaged by the airline, it is your loss, but if it is damaged by a shipping company, they would have to take care of it.
not worth it... u have to get a rent-a-car to get it... then somehow fit the huge box in the car... bring it back to the airport.... get how difficult this will be? not worth it

Here are Delta's checked baggage rules. You may have some difficulty with a boxed up bumper, but who knows?

As kind of a funny off topic side note, in 2000 we moved my girlfriend (now wife) from Seattle to Atlanta using Delta Air Cargo. We drove up with a truck full of boxes, they looked them over and then they pushed a LD2 baggage container to the door and we loaded it up. They loaded it onto a 767 and it was there overnight. We got 1100 pounds worth of stuff in it and it cost us $820. It was cheaper than getting a small U-Haul and driving across country! I don't think this is possible with all the new security rules.
Best wishes,

I did this with a wing for an Eclipse I used to have. I wrapped it up with bubble wrap and cardboard (and about 5 rolls of tape). There were stress cracks in a couple of places when I unwrapped it .
