Japanese tuners vs the rest

For the Evo 8 I notice that everyone is going with Vishnu or Bushur...etc

What about HKS, Greddy and other Japanese companies? Just out of curiosity, is it because one is cheaper than the other and you get more for what you spend? Im located in asia so I guess I have no choice but to go with the Japanese tuners.

Fact of the matter is Buschur and Vishnu are US companies. They are hear near there customers. That makes the biggest diffrence. Also most people don't like to wait for the slow boat from Japan. Now another thing is the parts here are designed for the USDM cars. There is a small diffrence between JDM conterparts.

IMHO

Personally, I think that the Japanese tuners are as good or better than anybody else. The reason ppl in the USA go with Vishnu, Buschur, etc. Is because these tuners are here and the Japanese tuners are not.
Many tuners in the USA use HKS, GReddy and other well known and respected Japanese tuner parts.
Finally, there are some really incompetent people in the USA "tuning" cars and no matter which parts or whose products you use, you can still end up with a screwed up car.

Thing is, even if you could get an HKS FConVPro or PowerFC, who would tune it for you in the US?

An ECU is only as good as the tuner

One of the few bolt-on parts that I feel the JDM's make the best of are cat-back exausts. The fit is always perfect. Can't say the same about USDM cat-backs. Most that I have seen hang low, stick out too far, or the tip is too close to the bumper, or too far in, etc.

Most everything else is made very well, here in the states.

One thing that the Japanese tuners have on the tuners here in the States is the experience with the car. I know that the 4G63 has been around here in the States for quite some time, but still, the Japanese have had the Evo for along time and have had plenty of time to work out the quirks and what not. I agree with 99AllTurbo about the build quality on the exhaust as I have a HKS Carbon-Ti and the fitment and quality is top notch. That being said, it is extrememly annoying having to wait for the slow boat from Japan to bring these parts and they are not cheap either. As far as ECU tuning goes, my plan is to go with Vishnu.

I really like my buschur exhaust. Going with Vishnu on the tuning. Buschur on the turbo kit.

would a different exhaust like the HKS cat-back work with a vishnu down pipe? would the ECU upgrades from VISHNU not work as well if you are using a Japanese exhaust?

Our ECU reflashes and XEDE maps don't really care about what exhaust brand you run. The only issue is general exhaust design. All our exhausts are constant 3" with straight-thru muffler designs. Just about all exhausts of similar general design will behave the same. The only difference being build quality, sound and fitment (or in some cases, lack thereof )

shiv, under dave's account

Funny, that didn't pan out in the exhaust shootout. Some of those subtle variations may not be such...

After witnessing the deplorable ignorance and wretched incompetence of American tuners on my Mitsubishi Expo LRV I would have to say always use Japanese. If I had to go American then I would pick Vishnu.
