not going to believe what mitsu dealer did

last night was driving home and when i got home noticed there was a trail of oil leading to my garage i lift up the car and everything is soaked in oil. i remove the oil filter and i notice that there are two o rings and one of them failed. Mitsubishi was so careless leaving two o rings on the car.

Word to the wise - do your own oil changes.

definetly learned that the hard way the car had no oil in it what so ever hopefully no damage

CitrusBlast Mar 3, 2009 07:32 AM

how long did you drive? if you fixed it yourself you should be good...when i built the motor on my car...it was so time consuming and pain staking that when i finally filled her up with oil, I forgot to tighten my drain plug and started the car in the garage. Got lost about a half a quart...now its triple check everytime i do the oil lol

Mr. PSSsSt Mar 3, 2009 07:34 AM

It is beyond me how someone can mess up an oil change, let alone a "Certified Technician".

You car is fine, synthetic oil leaves a heavy glaze of oil on the cylinder wall for sometime.

thee stig Mar 3, 2009 07:59 AM

have no idea how someone can mess that up going to mitsu today and will see what they say

whitersevo Mar 3, 2009 08:03 AM

wow that is alot of oil lost, I would get some type of documentation, so if you motor happens to spin a rod bearing you can maybe get a new motor.... what dealership in arizona was it?

Juan Martinez Mar 3, 2009 08:06 AM

I've done this before. Most of the time, the oil ring stays attached to the oil filter when you take it off. I didn't notice this and just put on a new one. I lost about 5 quarts of oil in my eclipse. Most expensive oil change I've ever done. I wouldn't be hard on the guy who did it. Its a rare thing that happens.

That's bad be careful next time not to go to mitsu do it yourself. You had a doble oil change.. hehe

I would do this, straight to the manager. Be calm, controlled, and let him talk.

See if you can get them to send an oil sample for testing to see if the motor is eating itself.

the dealership on bell and 12th street, hopefully they extend my warranty because i really don't want to replace a motor on my bill

jjm4life Mar 3, 2009 08:13 AM

doesnt surprise me. the last time i was at the dealership they disconected my battery.. and never reconnected it. i found out 20 mins later when i parked a for a few mins and my car wouldnt turn back on.

make sure you get over there and get everything checked out, and get their mistake in writing.
