That carbon fiber cover is almost awesome, but I'd like it better in matt black

okay, i just finished Bolsen's gauge mod (quick, easy, and fun for a newbie), but i was a little disappointed with the results. Yeah, it's a little brighter, but not like "an STi" like some have been saying. Maybe it's just because it's the middle of the day, I'll look tonight.

HELP!!!
So I did this light mod on the weekend. Also I was doing something extra which required me to remove the needles. I removed the needles using two flat head screw drivers and they came off nicely. After I put them back in and put the cluster back in when I start my car the needles don't read properly. For example my temp gauge sits at the bottom when off, like it should, but when I start the car (COLD) the gauge needle goes up to just below the middle and goes up from there as the car warms up. Same with my fuel gauge, I only have about half a tank but it reads at almost full when the gauges are on. Again, when off both sit at the bottom as before. Any ideas to what could be wrong? Someone once said something about resetting the needles, is that something I'm missing?
Thanks.

Take them off and then put them back on when the car is started.

when I did this I started my car and let it run until it was a normal operating temp. took note of my gas reading, tach reading and adjusted when I put them back on. as far as the speedo I had one of those radar speed contraptions by my house and just took it to 25mph and pinned the needle on. worked just fine. of course I wouldn't do this on my car now, that was 5yrs ago.
