How to paint the stock enkies?
I'm planning on painting my stock wheels (along with my friends S2K stockies
) this weekend. I'm just want to make sure what is needed to do a clean job.
1. What grit sandpaper?
2. Anything other than wheel cleaner or soap to totally clean the wheels off after sanding?
3. How many coats of paint?
4. How many coast of clear?
5. Anything else?
I'm thinking that I want more of a gloss, than a flat look (I will be using duplicolor wheel paint). I have am searching for threads that have some info on this, but if anyone else finds any, please post up the link!
Thanks for the help.

I just did mine , but i used PPG paint not spray can stuff , that stuff works OK but CAR paint is so much stronger. All i would do is get some brand new 3M red scuff pads and go too town , this part will take at least 45min per wheel . You should get all the shinny surface dull . 80% of the time its not a painters fault its the prep job , you want that paint too stick . After they are all scuffed blow them off with air and then wipe them down with Wax & grease remover. Then have fun painting . This is just a basic idea on how to do this . we all have to learn somewhere. Have fun at the same time .
600 grit sandpaper, primer paint, then spray paint color of your choice and clearcoat. Paint coatings depends on you and use your best judgement on how it looks after painting. Do this in warm weather for better paint adhesion. Goodluck!
Thanks alot! I was helpin my friend painting his S2K wheels, today. They came out really well, I was surpised. We sanded down with 220 grit aluminum sandpaper (I know a little rough, but it seemed to work really well), shot on 2 coats of black and then 3 coats of clear. The stuff dried so quick, he decided to put them on tonight. Hopefully next weekend I'll do mine, but probably with some finer sand paper and do some wet sanding aswell. Thanks all for the info!
