More on Valentine 1 hardwire....

I'm in the process of hardwiring my V1 to the map light console in the MR.

Can anyone help tell me which of the two wires to attach the V1's vampire clip?

There are two black wires--one with a white stripe--that plug into the maplight unit.

The one with the white stripe is hot all the time, but I cannot tell if or when the plain black wire is hot.

Ideally I'd like to hook up to a switched hot wire so I don't accidentally run my battery down if I don't turn off the V1.

Any ideas?

thanks,

Tony

i just wired my v1..but dont use the map lights..just run the wire under the headliner/down the a pillar and to the cigarette lighter..trust me its easy, the v1 came with plenty of wire to go that length..the "phone cord" wire..then the res power wire. It turns on with ignition, and is pretty simple. tap the brown wire behind the cigarette lighter for power.

My V1 is mounted on the passenger side on the rear-view mirror and my hidden display is on my steering column.

Yeah I just called valentine, mine has been getting weaker and weaker the past couple of months. It was purchased dec '02 and is now out of warranty, they said send it in. Looks like $55 for just the pop update. I have a question. I am admittedly not an electronics person, can solder like a **** but just not that experienced with voltages and what not. I teed off the power line for my Valentine for a constant power to run to my Autometer 60mm egt gauge, could that be what is causing my Valentine not to work at optimal performance?

edit: edited for uber linkage http://www.jaricdesign.com/products.htm

How do they know which one to send you? My Evo IX seems to have these 'mini' fuses in the in-cabin fuse box, as opposed to my Acura that has larger fuses. The prongs on the Evo fuses seem to be physically smaller.
