HELP NEEDED!: Boost Gauge Wiring

Hey all, I have a greddy boost gauge I'm trying to wire up, and I can't figure out where would be the best place to locate all the wires I need.

I need ignition, parking lights, 12v power source, and a ground.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Do you have a turbo timer?

No. Can all these wires be found under the center console? Where would be the best place to find them all.

ground- anywhere a metal screw is touching bare metal.

power- best is to buy a fuse tap. This way you do not have to cut any current power wires. Buy them at pepboys

I have vampire clips, but the greddy wires aren't long enough to reach the fuse box as they are. I could extend them, but I have everything I need right now. I'm just wondering what color power is. Is it anything besides solid white? Isn't ground brown? What about ignition? What about accessories too? Is that green/white?

The reason I ask about the Turbo Timer is there is a greddy patch harness for turbo timers that will give you the connections you need and still alow you to plug and play a turbo timer. Other wise you will have to splice into your factory ignition wires. ( not recommended) You'll need a multi-meter to find your wires.

I dont mean to go off topic here, but I just got one of these too and the instructions are in Japanese. I get the power and ground colors, but I have orange and white wires left and dont know which one is ignition and which one is for lighting. Any help would be great. I will add some feedback on wire locations after I get it in Friday afternoon. Thanx

i have the hks TT harness but i believe it's the same as the greddy as far as wires/colors. i just got the instructions for it off of hks' website and it had the wires labled and i just patched right into the harness. it has all the connections needed for the gauge.

so it has ground too?

http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albu.../10991/685.pdf

if you dl the greddy instructions you'll see that there is no defined ground wire... there is a green wire but they call that on... if that's the ground then i'm all good, i just need to know that. there is also no black wire... as you can see from this pic i'm about to upload

the hks looks a bit different. i'll have to check later to see if it had a ground wire or if i just grounded it to the turbo timer ground wire(i think that's the ground wire i used).

here are dirrections that i just wrote on DCEVOCLUB for a member asking for help for installing the prosport electrical boost gauge maybe it can help. all the wireing for power, illumination, and ground should be similar if not the same.

*NOTE:

-green wire going to cigarette outlet provides for illumination when parking lights/headlamps are switched on.
-brown wire going to cigarette outlet is 12v switched source, which provides for power as well illumination when the car is turned to the ACC. position
-both these are located under the center console which i am sure you know where the cigarette outlet is, lol

i installed the the 52mm prosport electric boost gauge on my car, this is what i did:

1) I removed the center console.

2) I used a volt meter to find a switched 12v power source, which ended up being the brown wire w/the little black dots that goes to the cigarette outlet.

3) I stripped of a small section of the cover on the brown wire and ran the power cable(red cable) to that and just wrapped it around and re-wrapped it with electrical tape.

4) I also ran the white cable(white illumination) to the brown wire that goes to the cigarette outlet, so that in the day time when my parking lights/headlamps are off the gauge will illuminate white.

5) I then ran the orange wire(amber illumination) to the green wire that goes to the cigarette outlet, so that when i turn on my parking lights/headlamps the gauge will now illuminate amber.

6) I next grounded the black wire from the boost gauge to an exposed metal surface, basically i just wrapped the wire around bolt.

7) Next I ran the green wire (boost sensor wire) from the boost gauge and connected it to the green wire from the boost sensor (the black thing with the nipple) and the covered the exposed wire with electrical tape.

8) I ran the red wire(power wire) that is on the boost sensor to the same power source as the boost gauge, all i did for this was wrap the boost sensor power wire(red wire) around the gauge power wire(red wire).

9) I grounded the black wire from the boost sensor to a random spot in the engine bay.

10) All my wire that ran from the engine bay to the cabin I ran through the firewall.

11) The gromments for the wires that go through the firewall is located at the foot of the passenger side, you may need to remove your glovebox for easy access to get to it. here are dirrections for removing your glovebox: http://www.evolution-8.com/howto/glovebox.php

12) As for the vacuum line, because mine didnt come with oem boost gauge, i unplugged the vacuum line on the sensor on the intake manifold on the drivers-side, but a piece of vacuum line on, attached the T-fitting, re-attached the original vacuum line to the other side of the T-fitting, the I attached a vacuum line to the bottom of the T-fitting, cut that vacuum line in half an put in the air filter(the gold double sided nipple fitting thing) and attached the other half of the vacuum line to the other end of the air filter, and finally attached the vacuum line to the boost sensor. *NOTE: I had to get larger mm vacuum line because the clear hose that came with the gauge was to small.

Make sure you cover all exposed wires with electrical tape and DISCONNECT your battery so as to avoid blowing a relay, cause i know someone that blew a relay because they didnt DISCONNECT the battery and that thing is expensive. And you will definitely need extra wire, the wiring for the gauge and sensor is 20 gauge, but anything bigger such as 18 gauge wire will work fine.

I hope this helps. Any more questions feel free to ask/pm

-siv

I have question-

Well, I just got an autometer cf gauge and the vacuum line that they put in the box is super tiny clear tubing. I see everyone using the thicker rubber tubing for the vacuum line. However, looks like the back of the gauge will only accept the tiny tubing by way of fittings. The directions are so basic and general that I am not sure how to handle my specific situation. I want to get this thing installed soon...help please!

Devin did you use the little resrictor pill that goes into the plastic boost tee. I think it is supposed to smooth out the readings, but i dont have it in right now and the higher end of boost levels, the needle jump aound alot. I am going to hook up a mechanical guage along side to check for accuracy. I have never used an electronic guage before and I dont fully trust it yet. I used the red for pos(+) and the black for neg(-), then I hooked up the white one to the parking lights. The orange on I do not have hooked up but the guage and lighting seem to work fine.
