I got great news I just save a bunch on my car antenna

I've been wanting to get a shorter antenna for my car for a while now. Last night 9-24-05 12:35 a.m. Right before I was about to order a perrin antenna, I stop and realize that hmmm...if I keep on doing some more research I'll be lucky to find something cheaper than the perrin atenna which was $27.95. So I cancelled my order.

Daylights come, 12:05 p.m. I went into the garage and look at the damn antenna and thought to myself, hmmm.... after I get myself a perrin antenna, what would I do with the stock one? Maybe I won't need it anymore. Ok if I don't need the stock one anymore, why don't I just modify it a bit?

This is where my creativeness kicks in Ok fokes, this is for those of you who feel like you need a shorter antenna but don't wanna spent too much for it. It is time to disect those frogs. I barely listen to the radio, so why what the hell not just cut the damn thing apart. I tested out the radio and it work just like stock, well before I mod it. I'll need further testing.

Tools you'll need:
- your stock antenna of course
- a plier that can cut or something to cut it
- super glue
- sand paper, (I prefferedit) to smooth/flatten out the tips after you cut them.

 

After spending almost 30k on my car, I didn't mind spending almost 30 bucks on an antenna. It looks perfect. But if you are satisfied with the look of yours then go for it. I always respect anything DIY.

 

Well appearantly I should check first before I rushed myself into making this thread. Anyways my methods are different.

hmmm...30 bucks on antenna or a tank of gas on the car? God that's tought...

 

the antenna looks fine use it on gas otherwise yull have a nice antenna and nowhere to go lol!!

How much did this effect your reception though?

 

it sucks i bet! check mine out and i have problems sometimes.

 

So far so good, I doubt the reception will be as good as before the mods tho. It sure made the car looks less distracting and some what lowered, haha.

 

Just did this mod, the reception kind of stinks but I dont really care, thats what the IPod and XM are for.

I did this on mine 2, i wanted a perrin antenna but the shop that was modding my car didn't have it in stock so the guy said want me to cut the top off for now i was like sure,Well it looks great and my reception is the same as before. U can't notice it's cut and not an aftermarket antenna unless u go right up to the car and look at the tip but then again no1 comes that close to my car
