DIY Muffler Delete

I don't have any pics, but it is self explanetory.

1. Go to your local muffler shop right before they close and ask them if they have any 90 degree 2.5 inch diameter scraps you can have that are approx. 18-24 in long after one side of the bend. I got a 45 degree bend to free flow it a little more, but a 90 degree will get you back out the stock muffler location intead of behind the tire like mine.

2. Get a 2 1/4 in exhaust band clamp, costs about $5.

3. Take off that heavy muffler, to do this without scraping the bumper with the tip, remove all the securing bolts aft of the flange and then unbolt the flange, now you can swing it back on the exhaust hangers, unhooking the aft one, swings it down away from your bumper. The hanger by the wheel was a PITA, but yanking on the muffler pulls it off eventually.

4. With a jig saw, hack saw or whatever, cut the flange off of the muffler as close and straight as you can to the muffler.

5. Test fit and measure the flange and pipe connected together with the band clamp to get correct fit, measure twice, cut once.

6. Connect together your finished product leaving the pipe a little loose for final fit under the car, paint for corrosion resistance, add a tip if you like and enjoy!!

I did this on all of my evos, but not the same way. Personally I found the sound to be a lot better than any aftermarket exhaust.

Yeah...too ghetto for me. I'd ratha spen d'like sevral hunet dolla on brandt name chrome tips (sucks that Dinan doesn't rape the Evo boys, too) that don't sound as good as a muffler-less system!!!!

Nice job, Sleeper2G...after a mod like that I'd have enough to go get a fat bag and some ZigZags.....
Oh Snap, perhaps that's too cheap for some....OK, I'd go procure myself an OpusX or Partagas and use that so as not to offend those who find saving money too pedestrian, then I'll sit in my BMW and laugh at all the other drivers/cars that they don't drive BMWs too, and then I can yank myself while thinking about how my mutual funds have grown...AHHHHHH...that's right.....AHHHHH...yeah, baby..... Dow Jones....AHHHH.....NASDAQ......AHHHHH......Bimmer. ....AHHHHH....Bimmer.....Bimmer....Bimmer...
Until someone in a home-made muffler-delete Evo blows my doors off in ANY type of automotive competition....but alas, the fool spent less money than ME....The M-*****!!!!!!
Now where's that copy of the Wall Street Journal, I think I might be able to get a semi-chubb....

dude you own an evo, evo's cost 30 grand, and you wont spend a good 500+ for an exhaust? man you suck.

should have taped a few blank paper towel rolls together, you'd have your own exhaust

Sounds like a good idea!!! But I'm sure you'd need to install WateriNJECTION in that pipe to keep it from burning, especially without a cat...
Then it'd cost about what you consider a "good" exhaust....wait, that's not what you did is it??? Surely you must have spent more for an exhaust than that....

exactly, hey if ya'll got money to burn then go ahead, I can:
1. back into a parking space and not hit my 500 dollar exhaust on a curb.
2. take pride in fabricating something myself and not relying on the UPS guy to get to my house so I can load up a box and have someone else get their hands dirty, because by gosh I drive a 28K (not 30 cause I can negotiate) car and my hands shouldn't be dirty for that price!

you could just buy some 3" piping from summit racing and weld it in the place of your exhaust.

this is if you want muffler delete.

then again, if you don't have a muffler, you'll get pulled over for not having a muffler...

getting your exhaust done by a muffler shop is the way to go, it doesnt need to be shiny it's under the car. SRT-4s dont have mufflers, you can get away with it as long as you don't exceed your local noise ord. with the 2 resonators the stock exhaust has it really isnt that loud at all. if I replaced the whole cat back yeah, definatly need a muffler, but I'm not to that point yet.
