Talking Replacing headunit of a 2003 Lancer

Hey, I've read couple of posts in here regarding to changing the stock headunit of a lancer 2003. I recently bought the car, in Australia the car is called Lancer CG VR-X 2003.

So I decided to change the headunit and bought myself a pioneer DEH-P6850MP (I think it's P6800MP in the US). I read the guide and it's pretty straight forward and I think I'll be able to manage installing it myself.

But before doing so, I'd like to ask you guys couple of questions. First, there's the red flashing light on hte stock headunit, I heard that if the headunit's removed hte car wont start is this true? Second, I don't quite understand with the wiring harness thingo, I think it comes with one but I really don't get what I do with it.

I hope you guys can help me out
