How does the IX shift knob come off? When I try and unscrew it, the boot moves along with the knob...I'm sure this is as easy of a task as there is...any help would be appreciated!

 

It has a little bit of glue that attaches the boot to the knob. Either keep turning to the seal breaks or pull down on it with a little force. Should come off.

 

So tugging on the boot should be good enough?

How does the boot attach back? I've ordered the ASPEC titanium knob, if that helps...

i doesn't matter during the winter put make sure you cover that up wit something during the summer, i always put my hat over mine after i burned myself on it once after sitting in the sun.

Now as for the shiftboot, how does it go back on?

 

i just purchased and installed an ARC titanium knob last week on my IX. The stock knob came off by rotating it counterclockwise. It took a little force at the beginning but it came off very easily after that. Don't worry about the boot... as soon as you get it separated from the knob you dont worry about it twisting or anything.

Afterwards you don't really worry about attaching the boot back.. it has some sort of stop in it that prevents it from sagging down. It isn't held up by glue between the boot and the knob. So you don't really worry about it when you screw in the new shift knob...the boot just holds itself up.

want to know best method if it doesnt come off easily? just use the dishwasher rubber gloves

 

I figured it out...the knob just takes a little effort to come off, then its cake after that.
