Alarm Bypass???
I'm getting ready to do an alarm install this weekend, and was wondering if anyone knows if I need an alarm bypass module because the key has a chip in it?
If anyone knows please let me know.

to use the remote start feature you would need one of the modules to support that feature it also requires getting another key made to work with the car from the dealership. I have read on this board its $100+ for a new key, but I haven't asked the dealership myself. An alarm bypass module I think is to disable a stock alarm, but the naming convention may be different from my alarm brand. You will like I said need some sort of add on to get remote start working with our engine immobilization.
I have a CompuStar alarm and I had to get the bypass module...I wasnt to excited about it because I like the idea of the chip in the key...Either way my alarm works fine with the auto start....I dont mind waiting for my car to warm up at home but when im ready to leave work I just want to get in the car and go...so it is very convenient

The 555U basically contains two parts. A "loop" thing that wraps around the round key cylinder/ignition and a wire coming off this loop that goes into a module. The module will require you to place another master key in it. So when you do a remote start, this module is triggered - reads and sends the correct frequency from the key to the key cylinder thus bypassing the immobilizer.
The immobilizer still retains it functionality. 555U only bypasses it when you do a remote start. But of course, you have to hide this module well cause it has a key in it.
