removed dash harness with alarm, now it wont start

hey guys, im new to the forum and having an evo. i only had my 06 evo mr since march 21 2016. the car was perfect, just has intake, exhaust and tune. so i decided that i wanted a radio with an aux input. so i went to best buy bough a $100 kenwood and installed it. ( im a diesel tech by trade so im fairly competent with doing the work). after the install i noticed that my pass side rear running lights are out. i had brake lights but no running lights. they worked before i put the radio in so i started there. i found that i had melted wires in the dash due to incorrect installation of gauges. ( they were tapped into the radio harness.) now i dont kno if the wires were already melted or not cause i had to dig into the loom to find the melted wires. so anyway i decided that i needed to replace the dash harness. so i found one on ebay. then i went about removing my dash and the entire harness. i over layed the new harness connected critical connectors, checked fuses and relays to make sure in proper position, and amperage. now the car wont start. i turn the key nd what i think is the starter relay just clicks. the old harness had a car alarm/turbo timer/ remote star jerry rigged into it. i had been running around for about two weeks with the fuses out of the alarm and i hadnt had any issues so i didnt think removing it would cause a no start issue. also my new harness has an extra connector by the center consule leg it looks to me as if it goes to an automatic tranny but i honestly dont know. and its missing a blue connector that goes from the pass side door (where it connects to the car) to the white cluster connector. could me having the wrong harness be causing my issue? everything else connects up perfectly. i just have one extra and one missing connector. ive been reading on the forums trying to find someone else with a similar problem and alot of ppl are saying something about an alarm bypass. but i got confused. if anyone has any input or thoughts any and all help is much appreciated. thank you.

there are so many variables and unknowns at play here that its extremely difficult to even know where to begin... but i would say getting the right harness for your car is probably a good starting point.

You say the starter relay clicks, then the coil is connected. Find the feed wire for the solenoid and give it 12v with key in on position.

The gauges are tapped into the radio harness by the factory, so unless the previous owner completely yanked them out and tried to redo the wiring I don't think that would be the issue.

its extremely common to tap into the dimmer circuit of the stereo harness for the lights in gauges. The circuit is fused so meltdowns shouldnt happen.

Ok guys thanks for all the input. I found a correct harness on eBay so I'm gonna go after that. And I'll feed power with my power probe and let you know how it goes. Thanks again

Do not hook up a dimmer wire for the radio! I had this issue with my daily driven evo when I first bought it... parking/marker lights had a mind of there own and I checked all the circuits via FSM and I had no issues... it wasn't until I replaced the radio I saw that they had hooked up the dimmer and it was back feeding one of the relays/etacs ecu... It was pulling a ton of amps as well because at idle when I would turn on the headlights, the car would die...

Sounds like they hooked it up wrong, What pin on the factory side of the harness was being used? The Metra/scoshe harnesses are pretty generic and sometimes what is colored as a dimmer wire isnt really a dimmer wire. Also the Mitsubishi harness doesnt have a ground in it, so its possible they didnt properly add a ground to the deck harness and the radio was grounding through that dimmer circuit.

Not sure what was hooked up or what pin... radio was grounded to the metal dash support so it had a good ground.

Does the engine crank over? Also do you have a Tactrix cable that you can use to communicate with the ecu?

Have you tried bridging the starter? Again you said the starter relay clicks. Correct? Bridge the starter with KOEO and try to crank the car. Keep it simple and cheap when trying I diagnose no starts.
