So Ive done some research on the forum and haven't seen anyone with the same problem that I am having.

I just bought the speed source under hood shifter bushings for a 5speed tranny. I am trying to get the old ones out. Most people seemed to have had trouble getting the old bushing out of the ring that is attached to the shifting cables.

I am able to get the cables off of the bushings but the bushings are not coming off of the pins on the shifting linkage. Before i really hack anything up i wanted to see if anyone had some suggestions on methods to getting these off with out breaking anything. I didnt have any PB power blaster on hand and im sure that will help break these off. Ill try some today after work.

Let me know if something is unclear. I tend to type from the top of my head

bump for some help. I still cant get the stock ones off. After letting them soak with some PB for two weeks. These old bushings are getting more and more crunchy

 

Since august? Wow...stock bushing are rubber? I can't remember..I used vice grips I believe

 

Yup vicegrips should do it.

 

I remember having a little trouble getting the old bushings out. Honestly there really wasnt any particular trick to it. You really have to just get your hands in there and push it out.

 

I just did mine today, it only took maybe 20 minutes. What I did was put a screwdriver in where the bushing fits over the shift linkage, placed my hand on the cable and pushed down on the screwdriver so the bushing pops out towards me. I tried pushing it downwards with force and didnt budge so I tried prying it out towards me and it just came out. My car has over 32k miles on it on the stock bushings...replaced it in 20 mins with AMS Good luck!

 

So it seems most people had trouble getting the bushing out of the shifting cable. My problem is the bushings are stuck on the linkage itself. Meaning the cable is removed from the bushing but the bushing is still on the tranny.

So some people are saying vice grips, How did you guys go about it? clamp onto the rubber part of the bushing relatively tight and twist or turn to break it loose?

 

Hmm..mine slipped off easily once I removed the retainer/cotter pin. Vice grips should give you the leverage to pull it off.
