Do it yourself intake?????

Yeah I was wondering if anybody has made an intake kit for the EVO on their own. Let me explain. I saw these conical air filters (similiar to the ones used in most aftermarket kits) at Auto Zone that will fit a 3 inch pipe. I know that Auto Zone isn't the best but since I just unloaded a wad of cash for an EVO, I'm trying to save money where I can on mods. I want to build an intake on my own (similiar to Buschur's) using one of those conical air filters. I know I could measure it myself but does anybody know off hand if a conical filter with a 3 inch opening would fit the EVO and what would I need to put this filter on? If anybody can drop some knowledge on this or any other cost cutting routes to modding the EVO, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

The biggest problem you're going to have is connecting the filter to the MAS. The opening is not round, so there's nothing to clamp the filter onto.

The Buschur and RMR filter (for example) have brackets to mount directly to the MAS. Now if you could find a way to make a solid conneciton, I don't see any reason why the filter wouldn't work. Maybe an adapter of a DSM?

Thanks bro. My dumb self didn't realize that the MAS opening wasn't round (the car is still very new to me-less than a month so I haven't fully explored under the hood yet). I owned a turbo Eclipse before the EVO and it was round on that one so I just assumed that it was the same deal. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

I modified a conical air filter to fit the mas and it worked great and cost me 30 bucks. All I did was cut the back of the filter to match the shape of the mas opening and drilled the holes to match. Then I used 1 1/2" bolts with nuts to connect the mas to the filter.

I'm 100% sure, because I just did this a couple weeks ago. They're compatible, but not identical. Some of the plastic will need to be trimmed from the mas in order to fit the adapter. Easily done in 5 minutes with a razor blade.

It looks like they are in the process of revising their website. It looks just like the Buschur Racing one. The pic below is from the Buschur Racing site.

Here is the real picture : EVO intake

I'm waiting for someone to send me a picture of one installed. Some wonder why it is so cheap. The reason is that they do not come with instructions or extended warranty. If you need instructions or a long warranty, I suggest K&N or one of the well established company intake kits.

935 Motorsports,

I checked under the hood after car washes... and found water
will drip through the hood vent and right on the stock airbox
snorkel (and some does get on the airbox)....

If I do indeed get one of your intakes... how do I prevent this??
(I could put a mat over it during car washes.. how about
rain?)
