BOSCH # 15730 universal PRE-CAT o2 sensor.
Just bought one today. and I am doing atm . but needed a break before I break the whole damn housing off LMAO. for me anyways the stock o2 almost seems
as it was welded on the housing(( BUT none the less good write-up)
I'll let ya'll know how it works out in a lil)

Can you please give me the stock o2 sensor's measurement so I can fix mine?

I didn't see this write up until after I attempted it, so its too long.

I need to make it the correct size.

I did this yesterday, but did not cut it to the same length, so the check engine light is still on. It runs great, but the code is still there even after I had it cleared.
-If the code is still there; after you've installed a new sensor & cleared the code. That means your connections are wrong.*NOTE: Wire colors for downstream are different from upstream. Well at least on my 05'the four wires are: Black, White,Red, Blue w/ yellow strip.-The DIY above works perfect for upstream.

A clean look

I doubt the length of the wire will keep the CEL on?-Cutting the proper length as OE sensor will only aid a tidy, and neat look.

I am almost 100% sure I have it wired exactly as the OP has it.
OEM to bosch
Blue to black
white to grey
2 blacks to 2 whites.

I will double check this, but I'm almost sure.

That's why I thought having the wires too long might be the reason.
I mean, I know there should hardly be ANY difference in resistence between a 12" length of wire and a 16" length of wire, but I thought maybe it would change the voltage enough to throw the CEL.

If I have it wired correctly, I don't know why the light is on again.

I cut the wire lol(old o2 sensor wiring) already but 16" does sound right though. but to be sure ,just find some string or shoe lace and drop it in place from OE plug to sensor location folowing the route that the stock one was

and still also doing my ATM had to take the DAMN o2 housing off and bring to a machine shop in town the son of a biscuit sensor sheered off OMG
and was a major pain to get off the damn heatshield to get to housing bolt
i even bought the o2 socket hell even was using mapp torch on it lol and still nothing. But i'll let ya know how it works out

Mine was basically welded on also. I soaked it over and over again with PB rust blaster, had the heat sheilds off and could not get it to come loose.

I had a deep well socket that I used, but of course the old o2 was too long, so I had to take a grinder to the thing to shorten it enough to get the socket on.

Once I had the socket on, I used a huge breaker bar and loosed and tightened it back and forth so it wouldn't break, adding PB along the way.
Finally it came out.

All that and the light is still on.

Which is the correct universal sensor? I was told the 15730 was incorrect (amazon part finder). What is the resistance of a good stock resistor and what else needs to be sized correctly ?

This sounds like a great idea if we can get it to work. More information / confirmations please...

The montero O2 will work

I can't answer the Q:..^ However you can save time and maybe $10-$15 over the universal for the VIII or IX. And tons of time can be gained instead of ordering @ amazon and maybe $ as well.Just go to Pepboys or any autoparts shop and request a Mitsubishi Montero 3.8L universal O2 4 wire.Don't be procrastanator like me

For a universal I cut the female connector that comes out the car and spliced it to the universal. I'll post up color connection by connection a little later.
