Looking at all these adapter fittings that evo 007 has provided the information about....wouldn't the 42 oil pressure relocation kit they have for the VW be able to attach correctly? Just trying to think of how it could work out.....it would be great to just have both sender units hooked up in the same place somehow.....lol just thinking outloud

I'll try to take a picture to explain .. the place where you install the sending unit ..I have an oil thermostat there..

I just got my kit from 43 today...looks like all very high quality stuff...especially the wiring kits they send. There was one minor scratch on the aluminum plate that holds the gauges, but i'm sure i could figure out a way to make it disapear. I had one concern though. The VDO oil pressure gauge only goes up to 80 psi.....doesn't the EVO push a pretty constant 100 psi?

Nice, nice, nice!

Someone should make a basic step-by-step guide for doing this if they have time. I would be interested in this mod and so would a lot of other people I think. Do you have to do something special to get the gauges to light up when the headlights/interior lights are switched on?

I am just going to try and tap a power source to the rest of the lights in the dash. They sent me the red LEDs instead of the BLUE ones so its going to be a little longer before I can install everything. I know the red will match the other gauges well, but the blue will match the cd player and stuff i have better. I'll try to document everything i do.

Please let us all know how it goes. I just installed a VDO boost gauge and tapped the line running to the cig lighter since it was easy (boost gauge in the ashtray.) The problem is that this line is hot whenever the key is in the ignition. It's a minor thing -- I guess I should have spliced the line running to the light in the ashtray. I didn't want to cut a wire if I didn't have to but I don't think I'll find anything close to where the gauge is mounted.

Oh well, what's cutting a couple of wires anyway?

LOL yeah...i'll let you know what I come up with. Purdue Engineering at its best..lol. Anyways I'll just get some wiring diagrams and figure out where the best place to tap the lights would be....maybe there is a line going into the controls for the AC and Heating controls that would run off of the dimmer switch. I just hope 42 Gets back to me soon...I would really like to have the BLUE LEDS instead of the red...I'm still concerned about not having the right oil pressure gauge too...i think i need the 150 psi gauge. Oh well they'll help me out i'm sure...they've been awesome up to this point! If anyone has any recommendations as to where to tap the wiring for the gauges let me know...otherwise i'll just try to get some pics and help everyone out!

I had a weird question....I just had my oil changed a couple weeks ago...obviously I have to drain the engine oil in order to install the oil plug for the oil temp sender. So basically the oil is new....is it ok to put the drained oil back into the engine and long as nothing else got in the oil when it was drained out of the engine. I'd just like to avoid paying about 30 bucks for a case of oil that is only like 2 weeks old...thanks

I tried wiring the lights to the light in the cigar lighter, but it didn;t work for some reason...maybe I screwed up the ground or something because one of the wires have ot havea positive current.....oh yeah...i also accidentally touched them together about blew the fuse for the entire center console lighting.....ooops. LOL...i can always go back in an correct that...i think i was just too excited to get the project done. Anyways if anyone has any reccomendations on that let me know

Yeah, the LEDs have to be connected correctly (+ and -) or they won't light. Unfortunately, the ones from 42 weren't labeled that I noticed so I had to guess. Of course, I guessed wrong the first time.

My VDO oil temp gauge is maxed out all the time...I have all the wires hooked up correctly....what did I do wrong? The signal wire from the temp sender oil plug thing just goes directly to the terminal on the back of the gauge right?

I haven't installed the oil pressure gauge so I don't know how it's connected in the back. However, is the gauge maxed even when it's not powered? The reason I ask is that I would expect the gauge to fail "low" -- by that I mean that when no input is given, it would read 0. If it doesn't, it may be defective. I'm just guessing of course...
