Walboro Fuel Pump Install EVO

The pump will pump more fuel faster but not enough to overwhelm the stock fpr so there is no need for any tuning device and gas mileage will stay the same.

I wondered that also, but then I figured that the injectors aren't going to shoot more fuel than they do now.
The pump just increases the amount of "reserve" to tap into on the pump side of the FP reguator,
but the pressure on the injector side is the same.
If you don't increase the pressure to the injectors, won't they just fire as they always did, with the same duty cycle??
Or are there other sensors that come into play ???
I thought I had read that the pump will be a big help when you get to the point where the injectors are
maxed out.

I did three of these fuel pump installations in the last week. Unfortunately, I don't have any step-by-step procedure to give for getting the pump module out through the sheet metal hole.

Note that the "hold-down ring" (the metal ring with the six bolt holes in it) is the main problem piece. Just lift out the pump module and get the ring through the sheet metal anyway you can with only mild application of force -- the fuel pump module itself is pretty sturdy, but the level float protruding from the side looks like it could be easily bent.

On one of the three jobs, I succeeded in working the hold-down ring around the plastic tubes on the top of the fuel pump module, and pulling the ring out the hole while the pump module stayed in the tank, but I was not able to replicate that feat again...

Noone here has mentioned that some vendors include "kits" to go with their Walbro 255 pumps, which includes the little tea-bag strainer. This little f-in omission derailed my install a few days ago. My pump didn't come with it and I didn't want to rip off my OEM strainer for fear of breaking it. Mitsu doesn't sell the little strainer separately.

really? what vendors include these "kits"?

You don't need the additional kit. Just use a small screw driver and work off the small retaining clip. Once the clip is off the filter assembly comes right off. You have to reuse the retaining clip on the new unit though.

Hey all,

I just installed my Walbro. It wasn't that bad, but it is a friggin PITA to get that retaining ring outta there and to make sure that you don't break any of the barbs... To reiterate, I did not get a kit and reused the tea bag filter. Just be careful prying off the retainer. Actually, just be careful and take your time and it isn't that bad... The EVOMOTO directions are great.

After installing, my car seems to idle better and have better throttle response. I left SAFC settings alone for the most part, but tweaked a few rpm leaner by 1 or 2 percent...

When you pull the pump up to take out the retaining ring, angle it toward the center of the car and pull the ring out toward the center of the car. Discovered this my second time doing a pump swap. Made it a snap to get it back in as well. Also, make a note of the orientation of the ring before you pull it out.

The walbro website has a fitment chart, and you can see if the 2 cars list the same model #...

Evo is WALB GSS342/400-847 and 95-99 Eclispe/Talon is also WALB GSS342/400-847, so it looks like you're good to go!
