My high milage Evo (~190k) has been in storage for years and I want to get it back on the road. I wanted to start this thread to document the journey and ask the community for help.
The stock header had a crack and I sheered the bolts going to the turbo when trying to replace it. What is the best way to proceed with the header / turbo bolts? I was planning to drop the exhaust and remove the turbo and take it to a machine shop to remove the bolts. The turbo was in good working order when the car ran. I do want to upgrade to a bigger turbo eventually, but not sure if I should do that on a high milage engine / before a rebuild.
I also found rat poop in the engine bay and the cabin filter. Cleaning the rat poop in the engine will be easy, but I am concerned that the rats got into the vents. I was looking around and found a diagram for the air filter box and blower motor but can't see how everything is connected between that and the vents in the car. Hopefully I will not have to remove the dash and everything to make sure everything is clear.
Fuel stabilizer was added before storage but I am not sure how long that is effective. Should I plan to drain the gas and refill with fresh gas before starting the car? Are there any other things on the car that I should check / replace before starting and driving?

I'd just step up to an oem EVO 9 turbo right away and not put any money into the stock evo 8 turbo. (upgrade your o2 housing while your at it)

The blower motor area is typically where they might like to make a nest. Sound like you checked the main area.

If its easy enough for you to do, It wouldn't hurt to drain it and add fresh fuel. However, if its pretty low on fuel, you could probably add some fresh fuel before you fire it up. Then i'd just stay out of boost for a while until you work through all the old fuel.
Thank you for the recommendations. I ordered a used Evo 9 turbo and install kit from MAP Performance.
I have an o2 housing with a dump pipe already installed and a new gasket. Do I need anything else for the install?
I completed the swap this week. Still need to tune it after I use up the old gas that was in the tank. I unplugged the crank angle sensor to prime the oil through the turbo and jumped it. Started right up.
