Lightbulb How to change you Exhaust Manifold

Time: 30mins - 2 hours depending on your mech lvl!

Step 1: Make sure the car is some what cool, or else bolts might brake!

Step 2: Take off heat shield! There are 3 bolts on top and 1 bolt towards the front of the car!

Step 3: Take off all bolts that connects the manifold to the block total of 9 bolts! there are 2 on the side, 4 on top, 3 on the bottom. The bottom bolts is kind of hard to see you will need a extension on the right one!

Take of the 4 nuts thats connected the manifold to the turbo!

Step 4: Jack up the car

Step 5: Take off the lower arm bar + down pipe

Step 5.1: For stock lower arm bars, there are 4 bolts that is connects the 2 bars to the body, just un-bolt those and take off the lower arm bar.

Step 5.2: For DP, there are 2 bolts that is connected to the cat, take those off. There are 2 bolts that is connected to the 02 housing, take those off! Theres also 2 bolts thats holding the dp on the hangers! take those off.

Step 6: there is a L shape bracket that is that is holding the 02 housing > turbo > manifold, you just need to take off the bolt that is connected to the body.

Step 7: Now the manifold is lose enough for you to pull out! Dont be scared to be rough w/ your car!

Step 7.5: By taking off the bracket it should give you enough room to take the manifold out, but you still can't then remove the bottom intercooler hoses!!

Step 8 +++: now just reverse the whole process!

What about order of removing the manifold bolts?
More so what about the torque specs and order to tighten the manifold bolts when you're putting the nwe manifold on.
I heard the wrong tightness and order will warp the flange and lead to leaks!

Heat shield - 12 mm
Once the heat shield is off spray the turbo connection nuts and bolts with WD40 or equivalent. I did and still needed an 18mm wrench cheating on my 3/8 socket.
Exhaust manifold to head- outside nuts 14mm and use a long extension
Inside nuts are 12 mm and you will think you are living right if you have a short wobbly extension.

There are two 14mm nuts on the forward end of the turbo connection and two 14mm bolts on the back. These are the ones that you should have had soaking in WD40. Now, why the hell they didnt make all four of them bolts escapes me. I am going to the bolt store tomorrow to replace the dumbass studs that make me take my downpipe off..... I should just grind the studs but my heatshield for my downpipe is here so I have to let the downpipe down anyway (living right?)

Now I give kudos to the mitsu engineers for making an exhaust manifold that you can literally get unbuckled in about 10 minutes with the right tools. But wtf were they thinking making a critical installation connection with studs? Anyone have any ideas on that one?

Anyway, the short wobbly extension is my addition to this thread, will advise on bolts when recieved and installed.

Not really feeling this how to. seems this is a "while your at it" job in which you do 10.5T, o2 housing, and whatever the hell else you can while you there.

Anyone knows the torque specs on nuts that are on the manifold and as well as the bolt that goes into cylinder head (oil feed line)

Thanks
