AEM Tru-Time Cam Gear and HKS Camshaft Installation tuned by Vishnu.
Article by Ryan Smith and Craig Hardy. It was a fun installation and I learned a lot. Not super technical but shows how to install these products.

vishnu cam gear comes with a red dot which is about 1 tooth to the left of the 0 degree mark (if i remember correctly). So you need to line up the red dot with the valve cover markings then everything will be fine, regardless what you see your cam gear offset to. Also, make sure that you line up everything b4 inserting the tensoner tool. The crank has also has a marking indicating that cyc#1 is at tdc.

im still totally confused...I have been speaking with andrew at Dyno4mance, and he told me that stock cam gears are 5 degree's off. So i need to retard both AEM cam gears -2, and then make a mark somewhere..I guess vishnu's already come setup like that??
Sorry i forgot that you have the aem gears... and they don't have the red dot like vishnu gears. I have borrowed the aem cam gear pic, so the following is what you can try...
1. Set your aem cam gears to zero degrees.
2. If you have a stock gear available, lineup the cam shaft key hole on the aem gear to the key hole on the stock gear. Also make sure that all the tooth lines up.
3. Find the marking on the stock cam gear, and transfer the mark to the same tooth on the aem gear. (since your aem gear is at 0 degree, everything should line up).
4. Now make the adjustment that you want on the aem gear (since you've already transfer the proper markings from the stock gear on to the aem gear, you will not have to worry about the gear timing)
5. Install the aem cam gears using the mark you've made in #3 to line up to the valve cover.

Wanted to say that I have been a long time follower of the forum, but this is my first time posting. Feels good to be doing something worth while enough to the EVO to actually post a question here.
Has anyone installed just the cam gears (minus the cams)? Is it necssary to pull the valve cover off and hold the cam still or can you get away with putting the car in gear or something to keep the engine from rotating as you loosen the cam gear bolts? I don't have a problem pulling the valve cover off, but if I can get away with not having to I won't. Saves a little time and money on the replacement gaskets.
