has anyone figured out how to have the fog lights on separately or keep them on with the high beams?? i did the mod for the lexus is300 and you can have them on by themselves with a one wire mod. has anyone tried to mod the fogs to stay on with the high beams or by themselves??

Easy & Cheap Foglamp Bulb Upgrade

okay all, i have found the cheapest lights for our fogs. h11. i bought a set and they are pretty kewl. they sparkle like the HIDs and they are pretty bright. they look ALOT better next to the HIDs. THE BEST PART IS THEY ARE ONLY $5.99!!!!! yeah the shipping is $8.95, you still pay less than $20!!!! to your door!!!! i took the risk-why not you???!?!? here is the link
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=36476 scoop em up fellas. they are great. they are only 55watt also. the color temp is 6000k they are made/imported by a company called alfaotto.com and they are $26.99 a set from PROCARPARTS.COM WEB SITE?!?!? much cheaper from the ebay store of procarparts. make sure you are getting the PLASMA BULB AND NOT THE HYPER BULB. ENJOY!!

you're absolutely right. Very little annoys me more than people driving around with super high intensity fog lamps on a perfectly clear night. if folks are using them for the right purpose, they'll be low so the light doesn't reflect back into your eyes. I typically turn my high beams on for folks who are coming at me with bright fog lamps. There's a REASON why they are called fog lamps. They are not driving lights - they shouldn't help when it's clear. Try driving around in the fog or in the rain/snow with your super high fog lights and see how good they work.

Grow up folks - fog lamps are for the fog, not looking "cool". Someday you'll blind an on-coming car and they'll swerve into your lane and crash into you. You've been warned. I just hope there aren't any kids involved.

i dont want to grow up....i drive with my "fog" lights on regardless. it gives me more available light on the road to the sides so that i may watch for deer. we have a problem with fog and deer around here. i dont think people have to justify why they drive with their fog lights on or not. its personal preference. i think it is to see and be seen. if your fog lights are blinding someone they are improperly adjusted. they should project a short wide pattern of light. a driving light will give a long narrow beam of light to help with the normal headlight.

as for looking cool or blinding someone, the HIDs are far superior to our fog lights. the HIDs will more than blind someone before fogs ever will. in fact, they tried to BAN HIDs a few years ago saying that the amount of light or type of light projected burns the retna of the eye causing temporary blindness. the HIDs of a few years ago were not regulated like they are now. cars with factory HIDs come with no more that the 4150k light temp. as the light gets older the color temp may change slightly-hence the bluer color. projector beams will also give you the illusion that they are different colors by the impurities of the crystal of the lens.

at any rate, dont stare at the lights of the oncoming car.

just my .02

badhabit - You drive an Evo. You don't need bright lights to assure that you are seen!!!

You may be right about the HID. If, as you state, the HIDs are bright enough, why are you adding to that by using bright foglights? You are contradicting yourself. Anyhow - the HID's are aimed with your drivers side light slightly lower than the passanger so as not to blind oncoming traffic. Your fog lights are not that directional. They throw out a general light that does, as you state, illuminate the sides of the road better so you can see deer and such. That's a fair statement. But, at least have enough respect for your fellow drivers adn turn off your bright fogs as you would your hi-beams when a car is coming at you. Otherwise, illuminate away!!!

just like to see and be seen. we have had several old people drive on the wrong side of the highway several times here next to the air force base. there is no divider along the highway.

as for the lights being brighter, they are not any brighter. they are the same wattage as the stock fogs only a different color temp. 6000k versus 4500k. they dont really illuminate any much more than the stock fogs, just wanted a slightly different color. i really dont think that the evo's fogs are that bright anyways nor do they make a noticable irritation to oncoming drivers. ive had my wife drive the car 5 blocks away and cycle the lights. HIDs with fogs, without fogs, and high beams. i changed the high beams out to the plasma ion yellow lights. far away they are a bright yellow like the lexus is300s but when the car gets up close, they turn into a brilliant white light. i have these in all my cars that take a 9005 bulb. ive had another set of 9005 for over a year and a half with no problems. 85watt up from the stock 65watt. now those are annoyingly bright. and i can see much better during the fog and rain.

go here and try these. they are identical to the PIAAs you seek. i took a chance and bought a pair. for $5.99?? why not...i received them in the mail and liked them. they look like HIDs. they sparkle kind of like the HIDs. 55w so they wont hurt wiring. i had a set of the GT-X bulbs in H4. paid $75. for them. werent any brighter than my $20. pair. i could actually see better with the $20. pair. take the chance-you might be suprised. i was.

If you want your fog lights to actually be effective in fog or other difficult conditions, you absolutely do not want he "blue/white" light. There is a reason that many fog lights are amber, that is because they pierce the fog/snow/rain/dust better and you do not get the reflection back into your eyes that you will get with an HID type or other very bright light. That is one of the reasons why fogs are not designed to go on while you are using your high beams. A second problem with HID's is that if your are actually on a dirt road , the HID lights will "wash out" the definition of rocks etc and acually make it more difficult to see the details.
