Custom tail light how to help

ive been searching the "how to's" and even some evodave threads. some of which are old and have expired pictures. im planning on taking apart a spare set of factory taillights to paint the chrome housing. ive read u can dremel them, but wondering if anyone has cooked them similair to the headlights? if so what temp n how long. or if anyone can help me find an up to date DIY for taking taillights apart it would be appreciated. ive been searching for an hour or so with little luck. thanks a bunch

I definently would not dremel them as I know more than one person who has messed up their tails with the dremel. The wheel is just too big. I'm going to try a mod like this in the coming weeks and I'm going to try using a head gun with a few different tools, ie. Screwdriver, razor blade, maybe some sort of exacto knife... what ever I can use that works the best.

I'm doing my headlights now and next will be the tails but I can only find the dremel method as well. I might just get a set of smoked overlays until I can get them to Evodave

I just heatgunned the lights, and then with a small blade cut through the sealant. it's a 5 minute affair each side. Just be careful when doing the inside lower corner, that can be tricky!

I used a heat gun and meesed up the first tail light i did. Then i Put them in my oven On a pan with foil at 300deg for about 10-15 mins watching them the whole time. Took them out used a new blade on a box cutter and cut them open the seal becomes really really soft and its cake to cut. Rest is easy.
Look at my previous posts in the "mod regret" post I have pics of what they turned out like.
If you have an extra tail light pm me I need a pass side. (just want the cover actaully.)

I used the dremel method... worked fine for me.
There is no sealer between the lenses. They're bonded plastic, literally melted together. I've never talked to anyone who has baked them successfully.

Good Luck

I also used the dremel method and had zero problems. The cutting wheels on the dremel are the perfect diameter to cut through the sealant.
