Blue or anycolor gauges and HVAC on an EVO 3 (anycar really)

I did this mod a few years back on my evo 3 when I was in Okinawa. I wanted to change my gauges and a/c controls and whatever else to blue but was to lazy and cheap to do LEDs. I dont like to buy the LEDs that ready to go cuz they suck for the gauges, Id rather just make my own. But again to lazy and cheap...

Anyways I figure this would be an alternative to painting your bulbs... Also this way it never fades, it cheap, and its easy... I know this wouldnt work on the Evo 7 and up gauges cuz they are transparent red, so yeah. But im pretty sure they would work on the HVAC controls and the I think the radio. Also the more layers you do the more color you will get.

The list of things you will need for this is:
flat head and philips screw drivers
scissors
blue transparent folder from the BX or local school supplies store (doesn't have to be blue I think they had red and a couple other colors too)
tape (optional)
paper

So here is the transparent blue folder that I bought from the BX, found it in the school supplies section. Notice how blue it makes everything and you can still see the lights...

Take out your gauge cluster. Not gonna go into this cuz it different for every car...

Take bezel and clear plastic off and put to the side.

Take your gauges out of the base and put the base off to the side.

Now get your paper and rough cut a template for your transparent folder.

Now transfer it over to your transparent folder and cut it out. I cut out a piece that looks exactly like that. It is like that so it has no seams and has no color difference through out the numbers. I cut out two pieces because one layer was not blue enough for my tastes so I put two layers.

Now slide the blue folder in the back of the gauge face but in front or the clear plastic. Now trim the excess plastic away from around the edge of the gauge face.

This is how it should look at the end. I just put a flash light in the back to test it out and it came out looking like this.

This is the final product in my car. I did the red gauge needles with a red sharpie while I had the gauges out and opened. Also I did the AC panel with the same transparent folder, really just took it apart and put 2 pieces of the transparent folder in the back of the buttons. So in all this mod cost about $4.00 and took about 1 hour, very cheap and easy.
